    Pay Grade: 7 ($121,304.16 annually plus $8,420 salary differential per year)

    Position Overview


    This is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of implementing minimum nurse-to-patient ratios (mNPR) in British Columbia. The successful candidate will work closely with elected BCNU representatives and members to problem-solve, track issues, and provide guidance, training, and education to ensure the effective and sustainable implementation of ratios.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide information, interpretation, and support to staff, Council, stewards, and members on matters related to mNPR implementation.
    • Support Council members, Joint Regional Implementation Committees (JRIC), and Regional Ratio Representatives to ensure efforts are impactful, consistent, and aligned with BCNU priorities.
    • Accelerate ratio activation across all regions.
    • Strengthen responsiveness to issues by ensuring timely interventions.
    • Enhance data collection and reporting to support provincial initiatives.
    • Increase direct member engagement to foster strong teams and ensure adherence to mNPR policy.
    • Maintain current knowledge of provincial mNPR policies and ministry directives.
    • Prepare regular verbal and written reports, including briefing notes, as directed by the Director.
    • Contribute to the development of training programs and educational materials.
    • Facilitate workshops and deliver presentations to Council, stewards, members, and staff.
    • Serve as the union's subject matter expert and staff lead on ratio matters, collaborating with colleagues across departments.
    • Provide leadership and work direction to assigned administrative staff.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • College or university education in an approved Nursing Program. A master's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and related experience preferred. Specialty training in a specific area of practice would be an asset.
    • Demonstrated understanding of mNPR policy and ability to explain it to members and others.
    • A thorough understanding of the complexities facing nurses across BC.
    • Extensive and progressive experience years) as an active BCNU representative or steward would be an asset.
    • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work with teams. Demonstrated experience of organizing membership campaigns and/or public rallies, and/or group grievances and/or media events and demonstrated understanding of and ability to utilize and implement the organizing model and/or equivalent experience.
    • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills, strong facilitation and presentation abilities and skill in communicating contrary positions with respect and awareness at all levels of the union and with external parties (Health Employers, Ministry of Health Representatives, Council, members and staff).
    • Strong writing skills, understanding of clear language and experience producing written materials (position papers, outreach materials, proposals, etc.).
    • Demonstrated and proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
    • A thorough understanding of and commitment to trade union philosophy.
    • A willingness to travel throughout the province and carry a valid driver's license.
