Description
***: Under the general direction and guidance of the Electrical and Maintenance Supervisor, performs duties to ensure that all rolling stock and related powered equipment and tools are maintained, inspected, and or repaired in a safe manner.

  • Carries out everyday duties related to the repair and maintenance of the utility's fleet, including (but not limited to):
  • Troubleshooting mechanical problems and completing repairs as necessary.
  • Performing preventative maintenance on all types of vehicles.
  • Completing brake, wheel seals, suspension, and steering component repairs.
  • Completes power train troubleshooting and repair.
  • Completes annual Mechanical Safety Inspections.
  • Record keeping including documentation management activities for equipment repairs and or maintenance.
  • Diagnoses and repairs hydraulic, electronic over hydraulic, engine and running gear problems.
  • Provides field and roadside service.
  • Performs minor body repair and painting to all equipment and vehicles.
  • Completes welding and fabricating work as required.
  • Ensures the maintenance of all smallpowered equipment and tools.
  • Procures necessary parts from vendors and maintains accurate records of transactions for settlement.
  • Ensures that the fleet garage is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:


Mandatory:


  • Secondary school graduation.
  • Truck & Coach Technician Certification and Automotive Service Technician Certification (Class "A").
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, problem solving, organizational and communication (verbal and written) skills with a commitment to continuous improvement and teamwork are necessary.

Preferred:


  • Experience in hydraulic repair.
  • Hydroutility line truck repair experience
    .
  • Advanced motor vehicle repair training.
  • Bodywork and painting experience.
  • Experience in fabrication / welding and or Welding Supervisors certificate (CWB Standards), and / or Utility Fleet Equipment Mechanic Certification.
  • Current certification in First Aid/CPR, Occupational Health and Safety Awareness (MOL compliant), and WHMIS/GHS.

Conditions of Employment:


  • Must be willing to work overtime as required.
  • Must be willing to travel and work outoftown as required and work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
  • Must be physically fit to meet the job's physical and work environment requirements.
  • Must have the ability to work at heights up to 70 feet in an aerial device.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Ontario Class "G" driver's license

_Note:

A Driver's Abstract will be processed by SYNERGY NORTH to verify that the applicant has no more than 6 demerit points.

  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid Ontario Class "D" driver's license with "Z" endorsement.
  • Must be a member of the Skilled Trades Ontario and must maintain an "Active" status for the applicable mechanical trade qualifications.
  • Must successfully complete a Police Information Check and Drug and Alcohol Testing.
  • Must supply and maintain an inventory of the various mechanical tools necessary to complete the required work.

$23.44-$39.07 per hour
