Areas of focus are Nut-free, Gluten-free & Sugar-free.The Junior R&D Assistant role is a level entry position in our fast paced environment, involves a high degree of research, trials and organizational skills and is one of the best launching pads for a career in our company This position is ideal for students that have just finished their studies.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, source & analyse R&D ingredients
- Scale benchtop trials up to production batches
- Assist in designing and executing benchtop trials, and analyzing data to make sound technical recommendations
- Help develop new formulations and make improvements to existing products
- Participate in plant trials & first production runs
- Support Operations and QA to resolve ingredient, formula and process issues
- Support Sales with project timelines & sales
- Assist in creating product specifications
- Investigate, report on technical issues
- Assist in helping improve product quality through ongoing review of formulation and process parameters
- Perform shelf life studies
- Work with multiple departments to ensure ERP accuracy for products
- Ensure timelines are met or exceeded and customer specifications are followed
Education and Qualifications
- Diploma or higher in Food Science / Food Engineering / Food Nutrition or related Science (e.g. Food Chemistry, Microbiology, etc.)
- 1+ years experience in food manufacturing/product development/ experience in a related role such as Research and Development or Food Scientist. Commercial bakery experience is an asset.
- Experience with leading new products through testing, trialing and commercialization within a high volume food manufacturing environment an asset
- Exceptional sensory skills
- Baking, technical, and food science background
- Ability to work in a highly dynamic collaborative team environment
- Resourceful and strong trouble shooting skills
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Working knowledge of Canadian and US food standards and regulations.
- Strong bench work skills with the ability to execute solutions rapidly.
- Self directed individual with initiative, motivation and positive attitude
- Be able to work unsupervised and at times, independently and able to delve into new areas outside of one's comfort level
- Effective oral and written communication skills and ability to represent the company and project team in a professional manner
