ONA ABOUT THE JERRY COUGLAN HEALTH &

WELLNESS CENTRE:

The Jerry Coughlan Health & Wellness Centre (JCHWC), Lakeridge Health's new state-of-the-art Surgical Centre and health-care facility is taking shape As of July 2023, the exterior is now complete, and construction is focused on the interior spaces.

This includes installing the fire protection systems, assembling internal partitions throughout the space, sourcing surgical equipment, and work on the mechanical, electrical, and medical gas systems.

Upon completion, the Surgical Centre will provide a wide range of day surgeries, including endoscopy, orthopaedics, and gynaecological procedures.

With more than 9,000 surgical cases projected to be completed annually at the JCHWC, Lakeridge Health's hospital operating rooms will have increased capacity for more complex procedures.

This modern multi-storey building is located at 2580 Brock Road on a 2.3-acre property that is owned by Lakeridge Health.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager of the Jerry Coughlan Health and Wellness Centre, the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care and practice activities in a multidisciplinary family centered care environment.

Using an advanced level of nursing practice and excellent observation skills, the RN will successfully care for patients undergoing surgery in the Pre-Operative, Phase 1 and Phase 2 areas of care.

The RN will demonstrate flexibility to work throughout the Peri Anaesthesia environment in order to promote patient flow; monitor post-operative patient progress while recovering from local, regional, or general anesthesia and support a safe and timely discharge.

QUALIFICATIONS:
*Current Ontario Registration with the College of Nurses (in good standing);
*Current BCLS required;
*Current ACLS required;
*PALS is an asset;
*Recent Critical Care or PACU experience preferred;
*PACU or critical care certificate must be complete prior to start date and active enrollment with associated program end date must be provided in order to be considered;

At least 2 years recent post surgical care experience required;

*Ability to integrate and apply critical thinking skills to patient care;
*Ability to handle a stressful environment in a positive manner;
*Able to function independently and as an active member of a multi-disciplinary team;
*Knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control best practice;
*Demonstrated knowledge in patient centre care approach and principles including patient education;
*Ability to adapt to a multi-focused, fast-changing and stressful environment;
*Demonstrated commitment to continuing education;
*Demonstrated commitment to organizational initiatives, participation in nursing council, unit committees and quality improvement projects;
*Demonstrated effective ability in: interpersonal relationships; oral and written communication skills; organization skills; prioritizing; problem solving; decision making; facilitating team work; conflict resolution;
*Demonstrated knowledge and ability to care for patients with advanced airway needs;
Understanding of surgical procedures including pre-operative care, immediate post-operative care and discharge teaching;
*Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations;
*Ability to perform the essential duties of the position;
*Must have a satisfactory performance record;

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and the Ontario Nurses Association (RN Bargaining Unit Local 051).
