Work Description


Reporting to the Senior Payroll Coordinator, the Payroll Coordinator is responsible for frontend duties within the payroll cycle for several companies within the Taggart Group of Companies.

The performance of the duties must ensure a quality approach to all employees and managers of the organization.

All responsibilities must be performed in a manner consistent with current legislation and in accordance with the Taggart Group of Companies' vision and mission.

Major Responsibilities:


Payroll Coordinator

  • Accurately enter payroll information for several legal entities in accordance with all current legislative requirements for both salaried and hourly employees under multiple employment and collective agreements;
  • Gather and complete payroll information for review and submission to Senior Payroll Coordinator for review prior to processing;
  • Create new employee files and ensure they are accurately maintained;
  • Provide current and accurate notes on all timesheets for verification purposes;
  • Collect and gather information from various sources and enter into payroll system for review and approval;
  • Escalate nonroutine inquiries to Senior Payroll Coordinator;
  • Prepare all information for proper payments of government remittances and garnishments, as well as union remittances for review and approval by Senior
Payroll Coordinator;

  • Prepare and process Records of Employment;
  • Maintain accurate file for payroll adjustments and calculations for review and approval;
  • Provide administrative support to the Senior Payroll Coordinator and Payroll and Benefits Manager;
  • Review payroll discrepancies in conjunction with the Senior Payroll Coordinator;
  • Act as a liaison between departments to ensure accuracy of data and proper flow of information as needed;
  • Monitor shared payroll inbox and respond to, and direct enquiries to appropriate parties in a timely manner;
  • Maintain files and records in written and electronic formats for the purpose of providing an uptodate reference and audit trail for compliance;
  • Other clerical duties as required, such as drafting documents and communications, scanning, filing, shredding, and data entry, etc.
  • Any other duties as required.

Statement of Qualifications:


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Postsecondary education is required. Background in Business Administration, Accounting or Payroll is considered an asset.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in a data entry, administrative support or payroll support role would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and approach situations in a diplomatic and professional manner.
  • Proficiency using various programs and software is required, including, but not limited to, the Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing in English, with various stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail is crucial for this role.
  • Analysis and critical thinking, as well as problemsolving skills are required.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.

Work Environment:


  • Providing service to several people or departments, working under many simultaneous deadlines.
  • Sitting or standing for long periods of time at workstation.
  • Manual dexterity is required.
  • Loud and busy work environment.
