Valley Credit Union has an immediate need for:


Full Time IT Systems Administrator

The position will be based out of Valley Credit Union's Head Office located in Waterville N.S.


Reporting to the IT Manager, the IT Security Officer, will have the opportunity to work with multiple software, hardware, and various other systems.

Installs, configures, and maintains the organization's networks. Manage performance and maintain security of networks and devices. Monitor and manage server and network systems. Have a strong working understanding of Microsoft Server and DELL/VMWare. Responsible for daily administrative duties involved in supporting, maintaining, monitoring, and tuning a virtual server. Manage backups of all servers and systems at production and failover sites.

Specific Accountabilities:_

  • Plan, design, implement, troubleshoot, and support of Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide-Area Networks (WAN)
  • Implement and support highly available network solutions in a secure manner.
  • Hands on implementation and maintenance of core switches, routers, and firewalls
  • Research, recommend, and perform capacity planning of the backup and Storage Area Network (SAN) storage infrastructure.
  • Establish and maintain user accounts, profiles, file sharing, access privileges and security; monitor and maintain backup system.
  • Perform offhour maintenance and support for server, system, and network updates and system patches as required.
  • Administrate various servers including Domain Name Service (DNS), Internet Information Systems (IIS), including maintenance of Active Directory structure, Group Policy, user security, security updates, hardening standards, and patches.
  • Working knowledge of MS Intune and cloud technology (Azure/AWS/) required
  • Develop and diligently maintain a security and privacy plan that reflects selected security controls, applicable laws, directives, regulations.
  • Recommend proactive innovative approaches to mitigate any risks and maintain a robust cybersecurity infrastructure.
  • Actively ensure appropriate administrative, physical, and technical safeguards are in place to protect the Credit Union's information assets from internal and external threats.
  • Develop an incident management procedure and establish the incident management and response team.
  • Assists in the development, rollout, training, and support associated with securityrelated change in policies, processes, guidelines, and regulations. Follows change management principles and confers with the change management team when required.
  • Act as a department resource by providing direct support to users across the organization when required. This may include troubleshooting IT issues and supporting daytoday IT operations as required.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
  • Successfully completed a diploma in Management Information Systems, Computer Science or related field plus have a minimum of three years related securityrelated experience, preferably in the financial industry, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, problemsolving skills, and ability to generate creative ideas and solutions.
  • Encouraged to work independently and contribute as a team member.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Working knowledge and/or understanding of the NIST Framework
  • Cybersecurity: 3 years _(an asset)_
  • Cloud based collaboration products (i.e. MS Office 365, Sharepoint)
  • Network fundamentals including firewalls, switches, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPNs
