MSU was founded in 1977 and has operated for the past 48 years out of its manufacturing facility located in Mississauga, ON.


THE POSITION


Reporting to the General Manager, the Estimator manages multiple projects, estimating material requirements and production costs for custom metal products primarily for the water and wastewater industry.

The role involves the review of tender documents, including civil, structural, and mechanical drawings, and project specifications to determine the required products and material take-off.

The Estimator uses this information to prepare detailed cost estimates and quotations for customers, distributors, and plan holders. The Estimator works closely with

Engineering, Purchasing, Management and the Production team to facilitate the flow of information and product to best serve the needs of the customer and Company.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with contractors, distributors, and consultants
  • Review tender documents and calculate product and material takeoffs
  • Consult with clients, to discuss project requirements and submit RFIs as needed
  • Determine scope of work, material requirements and lead time for estimates
  • Review work orders from previously completed projects to determine labor costs
  • Prepare costing file and quotes for both customers and distributors
  • Obtain material and freight quotes from vendors
  • Note discrepancies in the bid documents and bring them to the attention of the customer, engineering staff and/or production manager for resolution
  • Submit quotes to plan holders and distributors
  • Maintain project files, pricing documents and quotes for future reference
  • Enter purchase orders upon receipt, verifying pricing, terms, and shipto information
  • Deliver project files to drafting for creation of submittal drawings and discuss project requirements with team members
  • Prioritize upcoming tenders and send out lead letters and documentation to get MSU products specified for equivalency
  • Follow up on pricing with contractors after projects has been awarded
  • Respond in a timely manner to quote requests and manage project deadlines
  • Represent MSU, with customers, consultants, contractors, and suppliers
  • Perform additional duties, as required

Required

  • Detail oriented and highly organized
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fastpaced team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong work ethic with sense of responsibility, accountability, and ability to meet deadlines
  • 3+ years of work experience required in an estimating or technical sales role
  • Previous work experience in a related industry; Metal Fabrication, Manufacturing, or Construction
  • Familiar with Infor Visual ERP or AutoCAD would be an asset
  • Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel)

Preferred

  • Knowledge of provincial standards, building code requirements, load ratings and/or metal fabrication practices
  • A Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Project Management

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual base salary of $75,000$85,000; less statutory deductions.
  • Company paid for extended health benefits including medical, dental, life insurance and longterm disability.
  • 2 weeks' vacation per year. Vacation is accrued and taken in the same calendar year.
- $230 annual work boot allowance upon completion of 3-month probationary period.

  • 7am to 3pm office hours with two 15min paid breaks.
  • Reimbursement for all preapproved businessrelated expenses.
