This is a summer job opportunity for applicants between the age of 18 and 30 years at the start of employment. LAMP Community Health Centre is a multi-service, community based charitable organization that provides a wide range of programs and services to improve a person's health.

LAMP uses a co-ordinated approach to connect people to medical services and other programs that build personal resources.

By providing services that improve physical, emotional, social and economic well being, people can better control their health and environment.


Job Summary


Under the direct supervision of the Youth Programs Manager and Community Health Work team (Youth focus), program objectives, and organizational goals the Youth worker will assist with the facilitation of summer program initiatives that engage youth and help improve the lives of youth and their families in the Lakeshore community.

The incumbent will ensure that all organizational policies are followed.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Work as a member of the Street Level Youth Space team to plan and implement a free social, recreational, summer program for youth (ages 10 to 14) in the South Etobicoke community.
  • Work closely with the Street Level Youth Space supervisor(s), program partners (City of Toronto), volunteers, and community members, to help plan and implement summer program, community events, to youth and families in the Lakeshore community.
  • Facilitate inperson social programs such as recreational (activities/sports), artsbased activities, culinary, gardening, civic engagement, etc.
  • Supervise up to 60 participants with the support of other youth program staff.
  • Promote a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for youth to be active decisionmakers and partners in the program and help provide supervision to program participants.
  • Support staff and volunteers to ensure youth program policies and LAMP policies and procedures are followed.
  • Work with the team to solicit program donations, support youth driven fundraising initiatives, and occasionally purchase program supplies.
  • Build healthy relationships with youth and link participants with information and community resources as appropriate.
  • Utilize appropriate methods for interacting effectively and professionally with youth from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, and ethnic, sexual orientations, lifestyles and physical abilities.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with caretakers/key staff onsite/offsite to maintain safe programs and enhance problem solving.
  • Perform administrative duties including attendance maintenance, data entry, create web and print based promotional materials, outreach, and performs other agency assigned duties.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have registered as a fulltime student in a recognized postsecondary institution this past academic year and be returning to school on a fulltime basis in September 2024; between 1830 years of age.
  • Postsecondary education in related field, such as Child Youth Worker/Child and Youth Care or Social Service Worker/Social Work and/or a minimum of two years combined experience working with youth, planning, implementing, and evaluating communitybased programs.
  • Previous experience working with youth ages from various cultural, ethnic, socialeconomic, and developmental backgrounds, as well as, an appreciation of diversity.
  • Previous experience facilitating to and working with youth ages in a camp or summer program setting
  • Works well under pressure, during conflicts, high noise levels, and with large groups of youth (up to 50).
  • Great problemsolving skills and communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to clearly convey information and ideas.
  • Positive attitude and dependable with strong initiative and the ability to work both independently and in a teamoriented atmosphere.
  • Open minded, eager, and willing to constantly learn and improve oneself, as well as the developing of skills to improve the program.
  • Knowledge of LAMP Community Health Centre, the South Etobicoke community, and challenges youth in South Etobicoke community experience.
  • Solid working knowledge and ability to navigate a PC windows environment, including shared drives.
