The Manitoba government is seeking a qualified Agricultural Modeller Specialist to join the Science Innovation & Extension branch of Manitoba Agriculture.

Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must be a member of, or eligible for membership with, the Manitoba Institute of Agrologists (MIA) with a Professional Agrologist designation.
- Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 driver's licence without restrictions and be able to travel throughout the province as required.
- Must be able to work in an outdoor environment in both winter and summer in extreme temperatures, work at heights of up to 10 meters, and lift and carry up to 45 kg occasionally as required.
- Must be able to work for extended hours when required.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Postsecondary degree in Agriculture, Geography, Environmental Sciences, Computer Sciences, or related discipline required. A combination of postsecondary education in a related discipline and experience may be considered.
- Experience in agricultural meteorology, soil and landscape management practices, computer modeling, and ArcGIS geospatial software.
- Proven experience with computer languages including but not limited to: Java, Python, C++, PHP.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret technical data.
- Experience in program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
- Excellent written communication skills with the ability to prepare clear and concise technical reports.
- Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access).
Desired:
- Experience working with weather stations and weather monitoring networks.
- Experience supervising staff.
Duties:
The Agricultural Modeller Specialist is the provincial specialist position responsible for leading and supporting strategies and activities that will result in the continued development of a viable and sustainable crop and livestock industry.
The Ag Modeller provides leadership and expertise in the planning, development, implementation, interpretation and extension of new and updated agronomy-related models to enable real-time decision-making for producers and stakeholders.
This position provides leadership in the development, coordination and evaluation of programs, technologies, and policies dealing with the Manitoba Ag Weather Program, climate and weather simulations, models and programs for plant and animal management and production programs, emergency preparedness, and includes the identification and assessment new risks and opportunities for partnerships.
