    Junior Automation Engineer - Calgary, Canada - Randstad Canada

    Description

    The Opportunity:


    Our Liquids Operations – Automation and Measurement Technical Services team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are strengthening our presence in Calgary, Alberta to support the optimization of operations for our Canada and US Liquids assets.


    We are seeking a driven individual who is an effective collaborator, able to handle shifting priorities and multiple concurrent assignments.

    The successful candidate will participate and support throughout various phases of a project related to planning, design, fabrication, construction, commissioning, testing and start-up of automation systems.

    Provides input into the design, development, commissioning and maintenance of PLC software used on Control Systems. Work under the direction of senior automation engineers. Continue to receive training and development on the job.


    What you'll do:

    • Respond to operational issues ensuring problems affecting PLC, RTU, and HMI based automation systems are prioritized and addressed appropriately
    • Act as a resource for field and control center teams helping analyze and resolve problems
    • Support the team in creation and maintenance of asset management plans providing input into recommendations related to the integrity, reliability, and availability of equipment
    • Maintain engineering documents and drawings, including Control Narratives, Cause & Effect Diagrams, and Alarm and Setpoint Summaries
    • Support the maintenance and upkeep of our digital asset inventories and improvement/creation of equipment monitoring and analysis tools
    • Liaise with technical groups, including other engineering disciplines, IS, Cybersecurity, Telecom, Central SCADA, and SCADA IT
    • Support control systems testing
    • Participate with the team in coordination of third party contractors through the software development lifecycle for PLC, RTU, and HMI based control systems
    • Develop and expand knowledge of current and emerging technology

    Minimum qualifications:

    • 1 – 3 years of relevant industry experience
    • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline or related technical discipline
    • Registered with APEGA as an E.I.T or ASET as a T.T
    • Able to prioritize and manage numerous competing work requests simultaneously
    • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with team members and key stakeholders
    • Desire to be part of a dynamic team, within a fast-paced environment
    • Effective problem-solving skills
    • Strong technical writing and reviewing ability
    • Understanding of PowerBI, dashboard and automated flows creation

    Preferred qualifications:

    • Previous operations and/or field experience
    • Knowledge of liquid pipeline and terminal operations
    • Understanding of pipeline automation including pipeline control system experience
