Position summary
Reporting to the Manager - Augustana Facilities & Operations, the Facility Technician provides a variety of maintenance tasks to help ensure that conditions to a safe, efficient and economical operation are maintained in University facilities.
Duties
- Responds to maintenance/operational concerns and requests received via smartphone, verbally, in writing or through observation.
- Prioritizes requests, investigates issues, and ensures repairs are performed either by self or by the issuing of appropriate work orders to trades or other personnel.
- Troubleshoots issues and unserviceability's, assesses level of maintenance required, and performs basic tradesrelated duties to execute repairs & maintenance on various aspects of the building (structural, plumbing, electrical, lighting etc.) and ensuring larger projects are scheduled according to established work order priorities.
- Performs a variety of maintenance tasks, such as minor electrical and/or plumbing tasks, within a specified area.
- Acts as a liaison between building services staff and maintenance supervisor and other maintenance staff.
- Resolves issues or refers to appropriate trades personnel as needed.
- Provides information & feedback regarding status of repairs, mechanical equipment shutdowns, service interruptions and other building mechanical and operational concerns to Facility Services Supervisor.
- Performs inspection of mechanical rooms, fire sprinklers, emergency lights, emergency showers and eyewash stations, lint screens on building AHUs, low pressure steam and water boilers (not an allinclusive listing) etc. Changes AHU filters, and performs boiler water treatments as required.
- Is responsible for repair of shop materials, tools and equipment. Performs minor repair of Division equipment in the area.
- Maintains work order processing, project listing and daily activity log, and provides information to the supervisor for the area monthly report.
- Orders required materials & supplies
- Assists Facility Services Supervisor and Manager to identify Capital Expenditure requirements for the area.
- Reports incidents of vandalism, security concerns, and safety issues to appropriate personnel.
- Assists in maintaining the departments site Job Hazard Assessment and aids in performing regularly scheduled Safety Inspections of department spaces.
Minimum Qualifications
- Grade
- Valid class 5 driver's license
- Power Engineering 5th Class Certificate or a Building Operator Certificate
- Must have a certificate from a Vocational School in a trade related to the building industry. Mechanical and or Carpentry training from a recognized technical institution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Supplemental Courses, i.e. WHMIS, First Aid, Biological & Radiation Safety, APPA standards, Project Management, Microsoft Word & Excel are an asset
- Grounds equipment and skid steer knowledge and certification are an asset.
- American Water-Works Ticket'/'Backflow Preventer Ticket' would be considered an asset
- Experience with water/steam/low pressure glycol boilers, PSV's and pump systems is recommended.
