Legal Assistant - Personal Injury
We are looking for a proactive, detail-oriented professional to provide legal administrative support for our busy law firm in downtown Edmonton.

Role Responsibilities:
- Manage the overall operations of files (i.e., file openings, maintenance, and closings)
- Assist lawyer in all aspects of personal injury case management, from client intake to trial preparation
- Produce legal documents including preliminary drafting of correspondence
- Request medical, employment, and all other relevant supporting documents
- Coordinate with clients, medical professionals, insurance companies, and other relevant parties to gather information and evidence
- Conduct legal research and gather relevant documentation to support case files
- Draft and prepare various legal documents, including pleadings, affidavits, and settlement agreements
- Interact with clients, insurance adjusters, opposing counsels, medical practitioners, etc.
- Manage and maintain case files, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of information
- Organize and analyze medical records, police reports, and other pertinent documents
- Prepare for discoveries, mediations, and trials, including drafting examination questions and preparing trial binders
- Liaise with court personnel, opposing counsel, and clients to schedule court appearances and meetings
- Schedule appointments, questionings, and meetings, and handle all administrative and business details
- Provide administrative support, such as answering phone calls, managing calendars, and scheduling appointments.
- Manage lawyers' diary and update electronic calendar
- Preparation of legal documents and regular correspondence; Organize lawyers' files
- Review and proofread outgoing documents to ensure they are correct and comply with legal procedures
- Check for conflicts and submit file opening requests
- Handle routine accounting procedures: billing, cheque deposits/requests, time entry, etc.
- Other tasks as assigned
Qualifications:
- Possess a Legal Assistant Diploma
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience working as a Legal Assistant in a personal injury practice
- Experience with electronic document management systems is considered an asset
- Act with discretion and good judgment in regard to confidentiality
- Ability to thrive in a fastpaced environment
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel)
- Worldox knowledge and PC Law are considered an asset
- Proficient and accurate typing skills, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation
- Excellent organization and file management skills
- Ability to work independently and manage complex workloads with high attention to detail
- Competent in written and spoken English
- Ability to prioritize tasks from multiple sources
