Position Summary:

Acuren Group is currently recruiting a Materials Laboratory Technician to support our Engineering Department.


In this role, the incumbent plans and carries out various material testing, field testing, non-destructive testing, inspection and engineering projects, typically using established technical procedures and processes, Under the guidance of a supervisor or a senior engineer, the incumbent ensures work is managed within budget, meets client requirements, and completed within designated timelines prepares written lab reports.


  • This position will be based out of our office in Richmond, BC.
  • The salary will be $CA21.83 depending on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities:

The position may be responsible for any of the following activities:

Laboratory sample preparation, testing and analysis following clearly defined procedures including:

  • Performing materials tests, mechanical properties and metallurgical sample preparation as per ASTM or other published
  • Preparing samples for chemical analysis according to lab procedure
  • Conducting basic maintenance of equipment as
  • Operating and calibrating of the analysis equipment as
  • Basic reporting of results as

Field Work

  • Conducting positive material identification (PMI), portable hardness testing, insitu metallography, portable spark testing, ferrite testing, tensile

Support of Laboratory Operation by

  • Ensuring all instruments, tools, equipment and computers are maintained and in good working condition, and calibrated as required.
  • Maintaining the testing lab and testing area in a safe, clean and wellorganized
  • Maintaining equipment files that contain such information as equipment datasheet and maintenance
  • Following direction of laboratory work orders/instructions and providing results in a timely

Requirements:


  • A Technical school diploma in materials, metallurgy, chemical or mechanical engineering or B.Sc in chemistry or physics is preferred.
  • Hands on work experience; previous experience in a laboratory, with welding, mechanical repairs, maintenance, failure analysis, pressure equipment assessment and inspection, fitness for service review, and repair design is preferred.
  • Background with materials standards and analysis would be an asset.
  • Industrial codes and standards related to materials, welding, tanks, and pressure equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to effectively respond to different levels of understanding, and produce professional reports,
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of, and compliance with, responsibilities under the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, and ISO Systems, and Acuren Safety and Quality Management Systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs and driver license, Class 5 (clean record) required.
