Duties:
The EG-02 positions are junior, entry-level positions that provide technical, scientific support to intermediate and senior positions under close supervision for the development, implementation and delivery of a natural resources program or natural resources projects and to support advisors to internal and external stakeholders.
The EG-03 positions are intermediate positions that provide technical, scientific support to intermediate and senior positions with some supervision for the development, implementation and delivery of a natural resources program or natural resources projects and to support advisors to internal and external stakeholders.
Activities build on those of the EG-02 positions with more independence, and the expectation that employees would be responsible for more activities.
EG-03 employees would also be expected to help with setup and execution of diverse bench scale research experiments, examples of which are contaminant transport columns, polymer synthesis, catalysts preparation and gas sorption experiments.
Work environment:
Work is performed in laboratories at CanmetENERGY Devon, located a 20 minute drive from south Edmonton. As this position works on-site only, remote work is not a possibility.
Although there is no public transit available, parking is free. You can expect to work in a fast-paced environment work is often conducted under tight timelines. Technologists work directly with other technologists and chemists, and within projects teams of technologist, chemists, engineers and scientists.
Research areas are very diverse and include biomass to fuels, contaminant transport/environmental fate, carbon capture and storage, hydrogen production and critical minerals.

EDUCATION
A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives (see Note)
Note:
The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
- A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
- An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Essential Experience:
EG-02:
- Experience performing basic chemistry tasks in a laboratory setting (experience acquired within an education setting will also be accepted)
EG-03:
- Experience in carrying out standard test methods, data collection/compilation, processing, or verification in accordance with established laboratory procedures
- Experience in calibrating, operating and/or maintaining laboratory testing equipment
- Experience in maintaining technical logs, files and records, databases, and/or inventories
