Corporate Controller
Waterloo Office (In-Office)
Responsibilities:
- Develop, establish, and maintain effective lines of communication with all stakeholders.
- Identify, recommend and implement changes to accounting procedures and policies.
- Operate as a prime contact for financial inquiries (e.g., taxable benefits as legislation allows) and ensure timely and appropriate responses.
- Maintain reporting structure with the Ministry and Executive Directors and ensure proper and timely reporting to the government.
- Work with the Chief Financial Officer to negotiate banking service agreements for Karis Disability Services group of companies.
- Negotiate loans for new capital projects and ensure payment plans with the operating department are in place and maintained.
- Prepare, review, compare, evaluate, and report financial information regarding: budgets, costs, journal entries, and annual financial statements and recommend changes.
- Preparation/supervision of audit working papers.
- Serve as lead for external audit team in conjunction with Director of Finance for fiscal yearend engagement. Ensure all documents required by the external audit team are provided timely and accurately.
- Responsible for the departmental budget.
- Lead internal audit and recommend/implement areas for improvement of operations.
- Identify exceptions. Direct team members to investigate and adjust accounting information.
- Hire, supervise, direct and coach department team members and complete staff performance reviews annually and promote staff development.
- Exercise discretion and sensitivity in confidential matters.
- Plan and prepare financial strategies and departmental goals.
- Serve as backup for Director of Finance.
Requirements:
- 6 years of previous senior accounting experience
- Bachelor's Degree/College Diploma in a related field of study (Accounting/Finance)
- CPA Professional Designation
- Thorough understanding of accounting concepts and principles
- Proficient computer skills, including demonstrated experience with Office 36
- High degree of confidentiality
- Attention to detail
- Excellent time management skills
