    About the Position:
    The Senior Architectural Technologist is a member of the drafting & design team, responsible for the preparation of Computer-Assisted Design (CAD) construction drawings for the purpose of permitting and building a house to the standards of the Alberta Building Code and municipality bylaws. They represent the drafting department in any situation.

    • Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the development of architectural designs.
  • Lead and train others in all aspects of the department
  • Capable of answering all questions from trades, customers & municipalities
  • Analyze building codes, by-laws, space requirements, site requirements and other technical documents and reports.
  • Prepare CAD (computer-assisted design) drawings
  • Construct architectural and display models, and 3-D virtual models of architectural designs.
  • Understanding how the design aspects of a construction project influence and relate to performance and functional issues so that practical questions can be addressed at the outset.
  • Contribute to planning applications and other regulatory application procedures.
  • Assess what surveys (e.g. land surveys) are required before work can commence and ensure such surveys are undertaken and their results fed into the project.
  • Develop project briefs and work on these as the project progresses.
  • Prepare and present design proposals using computer-aided design (CAD) and traditional drawing methods.
  • Lead the detailed design process and coordinate design information.
  • Liaise with appropriate authorities (e.g. planning enquiries and building inspectors) when producing documentation for statutory approval.
  • Produce, analyze and advise on detailed specifications for suitable materials or processes to be used.
  • Manage the work of trainee technologists and contribute to the overall running of business.
  • Work closely with other departments, providing architectural design services and solutions on construction projects.
  • Manage projects, obtaining and evaluating tenders and contracts.
    • Skills and Qualifications:
  • Completed post-secondary diploma in Architectural Technology or related academic field of study comparable to Canadian academic standards preferred.
  • Seven (7) or more years of experience in Single Family Residential Construction drafting required.
  • Proficient in SoftPlan or AutoCAD preferred.
  • Able to create high quality architectural drawings and construction details required.
  • Experience working for a model home builder is preferred.
  • A knowledge of permit applications and city approval process is desired.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Alberta Building Code, Part 9 is desired.
  • Knowledge of Bylaw requirements and Architectural Guidelines is desired.
  • Understanding of truss and joist layouts, engineering details, and plot plans is preferred.
  • Familiar with current Fire Safety construction requirements for Edmonton and surrounding communities, preferred.
  • A valid class five (5) driver's license and personal reliable transportation is required.
  • Criminal Records Check to the company's satisfaction is required.
  • Manual dexterity is required to work with computers and peripherals.
  • Accuracy is crucial to the profitability to of the organization. Must possess strong and accurate data entry.
