YOUR ROLE


We are looking for an experienced Underwriting & Group Benefits Analyst to join our growing team in our Sales and Service Department and we hope our search ends now, with you.

This role will be hybrid working two days a week in our Etobicoke office.

  • Reporting to the VP, Sales & Marketing and under the guidance and mentorship of the Group Insurance Consultant (Consultant), the Underwriting and Group Benefits Analyst (Analyst) is responsible for administrative and consultant reporting. The reporting relates to all client initiatives, industry changes and the financial health of the Client. Your primary goal in this role will be to support our team of Account Executives with the data, analysis, and solutions they need to give our clients an exceptional experience.
  • We have two main types of clients: multi employer benefit plans, and corporate clients who both secure benefits for their members/employees. You'll get to know these contexts well and generate reporting to show where the money is going, and what factors are affecting that money.

YOUR IMPACT

  • You will be a key resource to our Account Executives when annual renewals are due, when new accounts are onboarded, and when rates and plans change. There will be very little clientfacing work in this role; you'll spend most of your time ensuring our clientfacing people have the rich insights they need. On occasion, you'll join an Account Executive in a client meeting to help clarify a complex context.
  • You will examine and prepare renewal data and claims experience, identify trends, negotiate proposed renewal rates with the insurer and prepare financial projections when required.
  • You will provide recommendations to the Consultant and/ or Account Executive and prepare professionally written reports for presentation to the Client and attend client meetings to address the financial health of the plan, if required.
  • You will perform regular group insurance analyses, including cost of benefit reports to support collective bargaining and specific research and analysis as requested by the Client.
  • You will manage all Client plans and policy amendments and notify applicable departments and/or insurance carriers of any changes using departmental guidelines.
  • On a quarterly basis you will perform financial plan analyses and prepare the required reports for the client under the direction of the appropriate Consultant and/or Account Executive.
  • You will assist with the preparation of new business quotes and provides benefit costs and assists in implementation of changes for existing business.
  • You will assist in the preparation and/or review of benefit plan communiqués, and other reports as requested by the Account Executive or Consultant.


You must be able to meet deadlines, work well under pressure, and work professionally with all customers (internal and external).

You will strive to ensure that all reporting requirements are met within established due dates and standards.


THIS IS YOU

  • Post-Secondary degree/diploma in Finance, Economics, Business Administration or related discipline
  • CEBS designation or working towards the designation is an asset
  • Minimum 5 years progressive experience in financial services industry (specific to the Life and Health Insurance Industry) with knowledge of the Multi-Employer and Corporate market, Group Benefit insurance underwriting
  • Knowledge of various underwriting and renewal rating methodologies
  • Demonstrated proficiency in mathematics and data analysis
  • Proficiency in financial reporting and analysis in order to produce professional reports for Client, Management and other stakeholders
  • Advanced Microsoft Office computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Strong interpersonal skills including well developed listening skills in order to communicate effectively
  • Superior time management and organizational skills
  • Must be detail oriented and able to manage multiple priorities in an environment of rapid and continuous change
  • Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to prioritize concurrent demands
  • Working knowledge of government legislation
