Job Description:


The Library Technician, Reference Services provides reference and instructional support services to facilitate student learning and faculty in their use of Library print and electronic resources.

The Technician provides instructional support for the Library's information literacy activities and administers the online library tutorials through the Learning Management System (i.e. Brightspace).

This position contributes to the development and maintenance of reference documentation; and provides administrative support to facilitate reference and library instructional services.


Qualifications Required:
Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree plus a twoyear diploma from a recognized Library Technician program.
  • A minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of recent related library experience.
  • Experience providing reference and/or library instructional services, preferably in an academic setting.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and written.
  • Accuracy and the ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of print, electronic and Internet resources for a wide variety of disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather information through interaction with others, write and edit effective explanatory and promotional materials.
  • Demonstrated initiative in problem solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to developing professional knowledge and skills on a continuing and ongoing basis.
Hours & Days of Work: 8:30am - 4:45pm Monday to Friday.
