We're looking for a Customs Manager to join our Customs team within the Freight Forwarding Division in Canada.

The Customs Operations Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the company and its employees are operating and processing customs clearance activities in compliance with government trade regulations while focusing on driving the department to meet and exceed budget expectations.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Regulatory compliance, providing operational customs brokerage guidance to staff, ensuring customer
- service retention and department financial compliance is being met

  • Review, evaluation and implementation of procedures and processes (best practices), incl. training and mentoring of staff
  • Corporate compliance to company directives (AMPS, CTPAT
  • PIP)
  • Maintain and enforce Canadian Customs Brokerage standard operating procedures
  • Drive timely and accurate invoicing
  • Ensure CARM monthend payments are billed out within the same month for reconciliation
  • Enforce all shipments received are recorded with file level revenues and costs are booked within the same financial period, ensuring all file cost allocations are completed before the month end or accrued into the same period
  • Minimize unallocated payments (waste demurrage, file level errors) and assist with A/R functions resolving disputes for nonpayment
  • Key contact with governmental agencies aligned to CBSA and lead customer compliance with these governmental agencies
  • Regulatory compliance (CA Customs and other federal agencies)
  • Evaluate, communicate, and act on all exceptions and deviations conflicting with Customs Product standards, procedures, and goals
  • Followup of corrective actions taken on exceptions and deviations to secure continuous development, quality improvement and profitability enhancement
  • Focus on department KPI's to ensure targets are met
  • Hire, develop and mentor staff
  • Lead Department staff, meeting company goals and expectations
  • Complete annual and midyear reviews of Customs staff working with them for future goals
  • Assist in creating meaningful goals and objectives for KPI's for department to work towards
  • Responsible for ensuring continued product training for import and export products, Emanifest, operations, and compliance, alignment to IID
  • Sales guidance in product specific matters
  • Lead new customer implementations with customers, ensuring any requirements are captured prior to
- finalizing onboarding

  • Settle disputes on operational and financial matters between offices, sisters and agents
  • Other duties as assigned by CA Customs Director

Special working conditions:


  • Manage 16hour shifts, covering evening and weekend staff

Qualifications

  • CCS &/or CTCS
Hold and maintain Customs Brokerage LicenseOptional: CIFFA certificate (differentiator)

  • 3 to 5 years Customs Brokerage experience in a leadership role
Good working knowledge of computer and Office 365 software

  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent people management and communication skills
  • Fluent verbal and written English language skills
  • Able to review products for HS Classification indications and locate any department regulations that may be applicable
  • Cargowise Certified Operator (CCO)
  • Operator, Specialist, Professional (differentiator)
  • CW emanifest & file creation
