FINANCIAL PLANNING ANALYST, FINANCE & ADMINISTRATION
CORPORATE SERVICES
As part of the Financial Planning team, the Planning Analyst assists in the annual budget plan process and related forecast updates.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports Sr. Financial Analyst in the preparation of Agency's regulatory reporting to various government agencies.
- Supports Sr. Financial Analyst with extracting and joining data from multiple sources to formulate driver based budgets and forecasts.
- Prepares budget and forecast updates for assigned sections utilizing driver based projections and trend analysis.
- Provides financial analytical support to assigned programs and functional groups, including budgets, forecasts, monthly reports and variance analysis.
- Prepares journal entries including revenue recognition, expense accruals and salary allocations among others.
- Prepares materials for monthly/quarterly reporting packages, such as writing narratives, analyzing budget variance, and tracking statistical information.
- Provides ad hoc reports such as business cases as requested to assist management decision making.
- Assists the Financial Reporting team with ad hoc projects as required.
- Assists in the preparation of PowerPoint presentations for Board, Audit & Finance and Sr. Management meetings.
- Performs other duties related to financial reporting/accounting analysis as requested, such as year-end financial reports for Audit including general ledger account reconciliations and audit working papers.
- Acts as back-up to the Senior Financial Analyst during his/her absence which includes attending meetings, working with confidential financial information and reporting directly to the Manager, Financial Planning.
- Participates in process improvement initiatives associated with identifying opportunities to leverage technological tools (ETL, BI, ODBC connections) to automate current processes.
- Makes improvements to current processes to gain efficiencies and meet business needs including data extraction, presentation format and information delivery.
- Acts as a finance partner to assigned Branch Directors to assist with, but not limited to, finance support, monthly financials, variance analysis, and budget planning.
- Works in a safe manner in accordance with the Society's health and safety policies and procedures and all relevant legislation.
- Acts in accordance with and incorporates Society's Code of Ethics, Confidentiality, Anti-Oppression/Anti-Racism, Harassment & Discrimination policies, etc.
- Uses sound judgment in consideration of financial resources.
- Complies with Society's financial policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Degree/Diploma relating to Finance, Business or Accounting is required
- Completion or working towards (intermediate standing) a professional accounting designation (CPA, CMA, CGA, or equivalent) is required
- 3 (three) years relevant experience in a financial planning role, preferably in a related industry sector
Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting practices
- Experience designing reporting templates with proper audit trails and versioning
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Developed interpersonal, customer service skills to work cooperatively with staff, the team, the branch as well as work in a fastpaced setting
- Selfstarting individual with ability to analyze and extract patterns and trends with models from real world data sets
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for reports and internal communications
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to adapt to changing working conditions
- Ability to prioritize multiple activities with tight deadlines
- Able to perform work accurately and thoroughly with a high attention to detail
- Skilled at being organized and follow a systematic method of performing a task
Assets:
- Experience interacting with relational databases and BI tools
- Familiarity with the Child Welfare sector
- Experience implementing and assessing internal controls
- Familiar with enterprise risk management programs
