The Operating Room at TGH is comprised of 21 Operating Theatres as well as the Multi Purpose OR (MPOR) an Image Guided OR (GTX) and Organ Regenerative Laboratory (ORL) and encompasses a wide variety of surgical services including Cardiovascular, Thoracic, General Surgery, Gyne Oncology, Urology, Head and Neck and Plastics.

There is also a Robotic program in some of the specialties. Priority program includes Cardiovascular, Surgical Oncology and Transplantation.

There is an ECHMO program to support patients with ARLS as well as VAD program; Minimally Invasive Surgery and Living Related Donor program.

The majority of patients are adults requiring surgery on an inpatient or outpatient basis. Many of our patients are highly acute and have complex conditions.


As a member of the interprofessional team in the Perioperative Services Units, the PATIENT CARE COORDINATOR acts as a resource for the team.

This position will play a leadership role by providing direction and supervision, mentorship and ongoing development of team members.


The principal responsibilities include:

financial/administrative responsibilities to ensure efficient and effective unit operation, contributing to staff development by promoting and ensuring a supportive learning environment, performing human resources responsibilities, liaising with members of the team to ensure high standards of quality and optimal management of patient care outcomes, performing cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification as assigned or requested.


Qualifications:

  • Completion of B.Sc.
N Baccalaureate in Nursing required; Master's preferred

  • Current certificate of competency (licensure) from CNO
  • Basic Cardiac life Support (B.C.L.S.) program
  • A minimum of three (3) years tertiary OR nursing experience, including area of responsibility
  • Demonstrates membership within a professional nursing association and/or nursing interest groups related to practice
  • Demonstrated strong leadership and motivational skills and has experience working in a supervisory capacity
  • Demonstrates ability to work in a team environment and collaborates with others in assisting with the delivery of care to patients
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Adapts to and implements change and facilitates its acceptance by others
  • Excellent skills in recognizing, analyzing and resolving problem
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent decision making and problem solving skills
  • Clinical and patient teaching skills
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards
  • Exercise initiative and good judgment with the ability to multitask
  • Maintains and protects patient confidentiality in accordance with UHN Confidentiality policy requirements
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skill.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
  • Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand
