FX Supervisor

Ghost VFX
Responsibilities:

Supervise the FX team and mentor artists to ensure the creation of high quality FX.

Responsible for directing the overall FX quality in shots and conducting rounds to determine which shots are ready to show to VFX Supervisor.
Conduct script breakdowns for FX and develop appropriate schedules to work with available resources and to prioritize tasks.
Collaborate with departments, supervisors, team members and production staff to effectively and efficiently meet client expectations and follow the creative direction
Collaborate with CG Supervisor to determine which technology will be required to meet the needs of the FX department.
Responsible for supervising the photorealistic "FX," (usually some natural phenomena such as fire, water, explosions, etc), using Houdini and any company proprietary technology or third party technology.
Expert experience working within a Houdini pipeline
Help create systems that minimize render times;
Help manage disc space to fit within quota;
Use tools and software developed in house, proprietary tools, or off the shelf software
Responsible to maintain and work within the pipeline and publish tools and scripts as prescribed across many shots

Required Skills:

Excellent artistic skills

Expert knowledge of Houdini Lighting/Look Dev
Expert knowledge of particle systems, physical dynamics, natural phenomena and fluid dynamics in Houdini.
Strong ability to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas
Ability to give directions and adapt to changes
Strong ability at balancing creative requests with the resources availability.
Proficient at balancing the creation of final renders for shots with building/maintaining systems for creating shots and effects
Strong experience using Nuke and knowledge of any and/or all of the following: rigid body and particle dynamics; volume modeling and rendering; procedural geometry generation; fluid dynamics
Reliable, with good timekeeping and the ability to meet deadlines

Preferred Skills:

Prior company experience.

Solid experience working with Linux
Solid knowledge of math and physics
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience.

Qualifications:

6+ years of production experience with 2+ years in a lead or supervisory role on a feature film.

Minimum 3 4 years' experience in a lead and/or supervisor position;
Solid experience in leading a team and solving problems under short deadliness.
Strong experience in managing large tool or software design and build development cycles;
Excellent understanding of how to manage large data sets and complex renders and familiarity with the latest techniques and technologies, and have one or more specialties.
Scripting/programming skills: VEX, HScript

Education:

High School education or equivalent required.

BA/BS in applicable field preferred.
