Description

Under the supervision of the supervisor and/or team lead, the incumbent will manufacture, repair, weld and paint various equipment and infrastructure components.

They will also disassemble, repair, manufacture, assemble and adjust mechanical and/or woodwork elements and any other equipment or components on the port's equipment and/or infrastructure.


The incumbent will:

  • Receive instructions from the supervisor and/or team leader on the work to be performed.
  • Study plans, specifications, diagrams and sketches; recognize permitted tolerances and identify the various materials used.
  • Work with the supervisor to produce estimates for work.
  • Use the machines, tools and equipment provided.
  • Assemble and/or disassemble parts or equipment to be repaired.
  • Perform various types of welding and oxycutting.
  • Perform all painting and surface preparation work.
  • Complete the sketches and templates required to perform work.
  • Maintain and clean machine tools and hand tools as required.
  • Perform daily, careful inspections of the components of the truck used, including brakes, tires, headlights, horn, oil levels and coolant level; complete the inspection sheet and give it to the supervisor.
  • Perform any other tasks required to maintain the infrastructure as requested by their supervisor.
Participate in the continuous improvement of processes in this position and/or department as required.
Perform all other related duties.


To meet operational needs, the incumbent must more specifically be skilled at building maintenance and mechanical manufacturing and must demonstrate that they possess qualifications and training relevant to this position.


  • Diploma of vocational studies (DVS) in industrial construction mechanics, machinist or equivalent;
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience;
  • Ability to work at height, on scaffolds and in aerial baskets;
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence;
  • Independence and resourcefulness;
  • Good judgment;
  • Ability to work as part of a team, proficiency and strong initiative.

Salary:
$42.66 per hour
