Your Opportunity:

Unit 38 at the Peter Lougheed Centre provides inpatient care to acute medical, medical teaching and hematology patients. This unit fosters a strong collaborative team environment with Nurses, Physicians, Allied Health Professionals and Support Workers.

As a HCA you will work in a collaborative care service delivery model (CoAct) and be responsible for providing patient care services as an unregulated worker under the supervision of a RN, RPN or LPN.

You will provide patient and family centred care and perform tasks related to activities of daily living and other specific procedures on the nursing unit.

Heavy lifting and repetitive movements are necessary during the course of performing duties on the unit.

You will demonstrate:

decision making, problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills; interpersonal and communication skills; initiative and independence; time management and prioritization in a rapidly changing environment; patient teaching, advocacy and integrating PFCC principles into patient care; ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with the interdisciplinary team; and to foster positive relationships in a team environment.

Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support.

You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities.

You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Minimum 2 years HCA experience working on an acute medical inpatient unit in the past 3 years.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working on an acute medical inpatient unit with Hematology patients. Experience and knowledge of safe handling & waste disposal for patients who have received cytotoxic medications (chemotherapy). N95 Fit Test and It's Your Move. Experience with Connect Care.
