Role of the Research Assistant and related tasks

Investigate the current state of higher music education and recent trends using quantitative data. This may include enrolment data, evolution of music programs (i.e. curricular change), institutional statuses (e.g. closings, openings, change of status from college to university), etc. The goal is to use longitudinal data to establish the basis for analysis of the continuing evolution of the sector in the future. This will include, among other things, a view of the impact of the pandemic.
Coordinate with the main supervisor (Sean Ferguson) and other relevant parties at the Schulich School, McGill and partner institutions.
Identify sources of data regarding the health of the higher music education sector locally, nationally and internationally. These sources may be publicly available, part of institutional datasharing agreements or potentially shared bi

- or multi-laterally with other institutions.

Develop techniques for collecting, analyzing and sharing data that maintain confidentiality of sources (i.e. institutions).
Document and preserve data in appropriate ways. This may include spreadsheets, databases, written documentation, data visualization, infographics, and instructions for updating material in the future, as appropriate.

Required skills

Ability to carry out primary research. Experience with gathering and analyzing data from various sources.
Knowledge of tools for capturing, analyzing and displaying data in meaningful ways (e.g., SPSS Statistics, Excel, Canva, Tableau, etc.).
Effective writing skills. An ability to speak and read French is desirable.

Hourly Salary:
$32.50
