ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:


The Indigenous Engagement Coordinator will support and improve relationships with Indigenous stakeholders and facilitate engagement opportunities to gather input and inform decisions at Ontario Northland.

This role will support operational business units as they interact with Indigenous groups, ensuring cultural awareness and understanding is considered in meetings and discussions.


MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Develop and maintain trusting, strategic relationships with Indigenous communities, government, staff, businesses, and community members.
  • Responsible for creating, planning, designing, and executing community engagement/consultation sessions with Indigenous stakeholders.
  • Ensure engagement experiences are positive, productive, respectful, and culturally sensitive.
  • Perform administrative tasks with regards to engagement sessions such as sending invites, sharing documents in advance of meetings, writing reports/briefings, and creating slide decks. Track actions from sessions and assigns tasks and follows up.
  • Act as a liaison between Indigenous communities and operational business units to identify and meet the needs of Indigenous communities, facilitate research, and find opportunities for collaboration. Attend meetings and coach other employees to ensure business units have positive and productive relationships with Indigenous customers, community leaders or groups.
  • Ensure the organization's compliance with regulations and standards in relation to Treaty rights and Aboriginal rights of Indigenous communities.
  • Communicate transportation planning and project needs to Indigenous stakeholders.
  • Advocate on behalf of Indigenous community members to the senior level to ensure representation of customers or partners voice is incorporated into strategic planning and other activities.
  • Provide strategic advice with respect to internal issues and projects.
  • Conduct detailed review, editing, tracking of materials prepared by stakeholders ensuring they are consistent, onbrand, clear, accurate and culturally relevant.
  • Consult and participate in the development of recruitment and marketing campaigns in the hiring, promotion, and retention strategies specifically targeting Indigenous people.

REQUIREMENTS:


  • College Diploma in Business Administration, Public Relations, Communications, Event Planning or related discipline
  • 35 years' experience in event planning and/or community engagement/relations
  • Certificate in Public Participation (IAP2) is an asset
  • Subject matter expertise in First Nations and Indigenous relationship building, consultation and engagement including experience working with Indigenous peoples to advance projects
  • Demonstrated commitment to furthering reconciliation with Indigenous and nonIndigenous peoples
  • Political acuity, sound judgement, and problem solving skills
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances, proven conflict resolution skills
  • Valid G driver's license and ability to travel
