Description

InnoTech Alberta is seeking a Supervisor to lead the delivery of client services within the Advanced Materials & Asset Integrity team.

With a focus on supporting Alberta's energy and manufacturing sectors, the Laboratory Operation team works closely with R&D staff to develop and/or provide specialized analytical and testing methods to evaluate material performance in support of client innovation pursuits including improved asset reliability and integrity and de-risking of advanced manufacturing processes.

The laboratory also supports the development of novel materials, coatings, and manufacturing techniques to improve asset integrity, improve equipment performance, and lower environmental impacts.

The Laboratory Operation team operates a world-class materials laboratory and additive manufacturing equipment with expertise in characterization and analysis of advanced materials.

Reporting to the Manager of Advanced Materials & Asset Integrity, the Supervisor is responsible for operational oversight of the Laboratory Operation team.

The Supervisor provides day-to-day leadership for team staff in the support of ongoing research and development projects primarily aligned with advanced material and asset integrity solutions and de-risking and deployment of advanced manufacturing processes.

Specific responsibilities associated with the position include, but are not limited to, execution of the following:
Laboratory Operations and Service Delivery


Oversight of day-to-day laboratory operations, including:
Ensuring testing deliverables, timelines, resources, and budgets are met, project managers and stakeholders are effectively engaged, testing results are prepared and delivered, and lab management practices and standards are understood and consistently applied,
Triaging project resourcing demands from R&D project managers and ensuring optimal scheduling and prioritization of laboratory workforce and testing assets to meet project needs,
Delegating tasks to the appropriate staff members to develop skills and effectively manage client service delivery workload,
Developing and managing all applicable safety documentations,
Managing laboratory assets including required development, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning to meet client needs,
Maintaining testing and chemical consumables inventory to support testing demand,
Support execution of and ensure team adherence to the laboratory's quality management program,
Directly manage research projects and technical services as applicable.
Provide technical and operational management expertise and insight and facilitate enhancement of capability to support new business
Leadership and People Management
Responsible for the management and leadership of Laboratory Operation team staff activities, including:
Ensuring establishment of individual goals and objectives and effective performance management and mentorship of staff,
Monitoring productivity, work quality and workloads, deliverability of results, and adherence to policies and standards,
Supporting recruitment, training, and succession planning activities.
Financial Management


Contributes to management of laboratory financials, including:
Managing and authorizing expenditures within budget and approved limits to support laboratory operations,
Supporting operational and capital financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, and reporting activities,
Ensuring timely submission of required internal and external reports and financial documents.
Business Development


Support of team business development activities, including:
Supporting the engagement with industry and other stakeholders in pursuit of business development opportunities,
Supporting the Division's branding and market positioning initiatives and promoting InnoTech Alberta initiatives and priorities.
Stakeholder Relationship Management

Develops collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders, peers, and colleagues to understand business activities and issues, collaborate on projects and initiatives, and identify opportunities to leverage resources, remove roadblocks, and influence outcomes.


Qualifications and skills we are looking for:

Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Commerce with Operations Management Major, or in a related scientific or engineering field is required.
