Description of Duties:

Coordinates, evaluates, prioritizes, and performs installation and decommissioning of hardware, electronic, and other accessory equipment for corporate fleet vehicles and equipment, including for police and paramedic services, and excluding transit.

Diagnoses, troubleshoots issues, and performs repairs, modifications, and fabrication. Coordinates with vendors and contractors for parts and services.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Coordinates, installs, and decommissions hardware and electronic equipment on corporate fleet vehicles/equipment related to conversion outfitting (e.g., lights, sirens, antennas, cameras, cables, wiring, telematics hardware, radios, cabinets, card readers, computers and hubs, tool boxes, safety equipment). Performs repairs and fabrication on same. Advises management and other staff regarding delays and resolves problems wherever possible.
Decommissions vehicles and equipment of conversion hardware and electronic equipment. Removes and cleans equipment (including identifiers) for reuse or disposal. Maintains an inventory of equipment removed for reuse or disposal.
Monitors, orders, and coordinates components and equipment with corporate stores, vendors, and contractors. Contacts manufactures and vendors for equipment specifications, technical information, and parts numbers. Identifies defects requiring repair and follows up with management and/or vendors for warranty claims.
Tests new products and processes, completes required documentation, and reports findings and recommendations to management and vendors as required. Provides input into SOPs; records information/instructions for consistent and standardized integration of equipment.
Performs repairs and refurbishes equipment installed, per corporate and industry standards, including communications and emergency warning devices. At the direction of management, develops, integrates, and implements modifications to lighting, ignition, and electrical systems to facilitate running light override and emergency lighting. Modifies and fabricates parts and brackets. Reads manuals and schematic drawings as it pertains to wiring.
Discusses work schedule, work orders, job timelines and status, and operational delays with management, fleet coordinator, and lead hand(s) daily. Resolves problems wherever possible.
Obtains information regarding cost and labour requirements to repair or replace specialized equipment.
Participates in legislativelyrequired and regular ongoing training regarding new vehicle technology and automotive diagnostic equipment.
Discusses equipment needs and service requirements with clients and operators as necessary.
Communicates with lead hands and technicians to obtain information and resolve unusual problems. Exchanges information with contracted services, vendors, and corporate ITS related to equipment specifications and technology for compatibility and integration into vehicles and systems.
Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
Maintains tools and equipment used for work in safe working condition. Repairs/replaces own tools and equipment as required, and notifies supervisor where time required to repair/replace impairs ability to complete assigned job duties in a timely manner. Reports need to repair or replace Regionowned tools and equipment to supervisor.
Backs up some duties of other positions in the Section.
Performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge and skill acquired through a Grade 12 education plus 3 years of experience working on police and emergency vehicle outfitting, including voice radio, public safety lighting, fleet information technology equipment, and related accessory hardware and equipment.
Knowledge of heavy and light vehicle/truck and equipment operating systems and hardware, and related electronic devices, wiring and lighting systems, safety systems, and security protocols.
Skill using and understanding motor vehicle mechanic tools, vehicle diagnostic equipment, RF test equipment (wattmeter/antenna analyzer), soldering, fleet IT hardware, repair manuals, and schematics used in the assembly, installation, repair, and fabrication of equipment and accessories.
Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, and related legislation and guidelines (e.g., health and safety, Ministry of Transportation, Transport Canada). Ability to keep knowledge current and participate in onthe job training.
Analytical and problem solving skills to assist in resolving technical problems, work independently, and organize and coordinate work with contractors.
Communication skills to exchange information and discuss requirements with management, fleet technicians, vendors, and contractors, and participate as an effective team member.
Ability to complete work orders, timesheets, summaries, and related documentation.
Computer skills with ability to create, access, and edit data in fleet and
