Key Responsibilities:


  • Facilitate outcomebased advising sessions and workshops.
  • Help students develop accommodation plans, make recommendations, and navigate related policies and procedures.
  • Advise prospective and NAIT students who have known or undiagnosed disabilities, with the goal of facilitating access to the learning environment, while supporting student inclusion and retention.
  • Determines student eligibility for services, cost of disabilityrelated needs and services; provides rationale and develops Service Plans in consultation with students.
  • Monitors, and adjusts disability services for students throughout the academic year during the student's academic studies or program.
  • Provides ongoing guidance to students, identifies potential barriers to learning, assists with the resolution of difficulties that may arise during the delivery of disability related services or during academic progression, and makes appropriate referrals as required.
  • Works collaboratively with program leadership and staff (e.g., instructors) to facilitate the provision of accommodations; provides consultation and guidance to students and instructors on a casebycase basis.
  • Provides monthly statistics and reports on advising duties, student activities, and services.
  • Provide appropriate referrals (internal or external).
  • Participates in NAITwide events, such as Orientation, Open House, Information Week, Disability and Mental Health awareness events, etc.
  • Collaborate with programs and services at NAIT to facilitate positive student experiences.
  • Maintain timely and accurate student records.

Skills & Abilities:


  • Knowledge of studentcentered learning theories of disability concepts, theory, and methodologies when working with a diverse range of learners and abilities.
  • Communication, interpersonal, problemsolving, and conflict resolutions skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Applied understanding of assistive technology equipment, software and apps used by students.
  • Ability to handle inquiries with respect, confidence, and tact.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 35 years of related advising experience; PADRA membership preferred or must be willing to gain membership.

Remuneration:
$2, $2,880.72 biweekly, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Student Advisor II).

  • This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement._
