The firm is looking for a dynamic Manager to join our Public Sector team with a focus on Recipient/Contribution Agreement audits


Responsibilities:

Provide timely, high quality client service that meets or exceeds client expectations including coordinating audits and other client deliverables

  • Assess risk along with design and communicate audit procedures to engagement teams
Understand and utilize the firm's 's audit methodology
Manage multiple engagements, oversee engagement status and ensure maintenance of milestones of all projects

  • Serve as engagement leader and/or client service coordinator, when appropriate
  • Collaborate with the engagement manager/senior associate on engagement approach and execute on the plan using a riskbased approach
  • Identify issues and assess impact on the audit; coordinate with the client as needed
Recognize contract/agreement-specific and general accounting and auditing issues; determine appropriate audit approach for such areas

  • Provide insightful feedback on client deliverables such as audit report and management letters, etc.
  • Understand skillsets and capabilities of Senior Associates, Supervisors and Managers and monitor and review work product that they prepare and report on performance while articulating coaching notes throughout the process
  • Review work product of Senior Associates, Supervisors and Managers and communicate audit status to clients periodically and assess resources needed to project completion
  • Anticipate and address client concerns and escalate issues as they arise
  • Maintain contact with clients throughout the year to develop deeper relationships to better understand client's goals and strategies
  • Provide insightful business advice and present oneself as a trusted business advisor
Identify and communicate significant accounting and auditing matters to partner on engagement

  • Develop others within the Firm through facilitating levels based or industry training, advising on career development or participating in other Firm initiatives
  • Identify performance improvement opportunities for team members
  • Understand the firm's lines of businesses, availability of services and where applicable, discuss with client management of opportunities to make valuable introductions to others in the firm
  • Subscribe to and actively read industry publications and share relevant information with clients as considered applicable
  • Develop a strategy to utilize relationships external to the firm with different types of Centers of Influence to effectuate business growth
  • Manage profitability of projects, evaluate strategy for growth of the firm
  • Ensure professional development through ongoing education
  • Keep abreast of latest developments as they affect GAAP and the Firm's standards and policies
Willingness to travel 50% of the year, depending on your clients


Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree or equivalent degree from an accredited university
  • CPA designation
  • 5+ years of current or recent experience in a public accounting environment
  • 3 cumulative years of audit experience and 3 years cumulative year of recipient/contribution agreement audit experience
  • Experience leading teams and mentoring associates
  • Understanding of audit services with knowledge of GAAP, GAAS, Treasury Board and Global Affairs Canada's policies and directives
  • A proven record of building profitable, sustainable client relationships
