Trade, Investment and Food Safety Division (TIFS) expands and diversifies Alberta's food and bio-product manufacturing sector in local and global markets while also providing effective food safety assurance systems.

Role:

Are you seeking a fulfilling opportunity to leverage your expertise in agricultural production economics for the benefit of Alberta's Ministry and the grains, oilseeds and forages sectors? We are looking for a skilled Production Crops Economist to join our team and play a pivotal role in collecting and analyzing cost of production data to support competitiveness, business risk management, and program and policy development.

Key Responsibilities:

Collect data, conduct research, and analyze factors impacting the economics and competitiveness of cereal, oilseed, forage production and supply chains, as well as the related agrienvironmental issues.
Utilize leadingedge research methodologies, modeling, and scenario planning tools to collect and assess cost and returns data for the grain, oilseed, and forage sectors.
Collaborate closely with the Senior Production Economist on consolidating and unifying data collection and analysis for all agricultural sectors.
Interact with various stakeholders, particularly primary producers, and build strong business relationships with internal and external clients.
Produce benchmarks and other reports and analysis of the grain, oilseed, and forage production sectors in Alberta, as well present information, and analysis to a wide range of audiences.

Qualifications:

Qualifications:

University graduation in Agriculture or Agricultural Economics or a related degree, with appropriate specialization, plus
three (3) years related experience in government or the agriculture industry; or equivalent as described below.

Additional Requirements:

Eligible for membership with the Alberta Institute of Agrologists (AIA).

Equivalency:
Related Masters degree considered in lieu of part of the three years of related experience on a one-for-one basis

Preference will be given to those with a Master's in Agriculture or Agricultural Economics

Assets:

Strong practical knowledge of Alberta's grain, oilseed, and forage production and supply chains.
Familiarity with leadingedge research methodologies, modelling, and scenario planning tools relevant to cost and returns data analysis.
Proficiency in technology relevant to data collection and analysis.
Experience in modelling and computer programming using general purpose languages and numerical software is definitely an asset.
Exceptional people skills and the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.
Demonstrated expertise in report writing, public speaking, and project management
