The Business Analyst, EMR Specifications role is responsible for the development, support and ongoing evolution of OMD EMR Specifications. This role works with internal and external stakeholders to develop, gather and maintain technical and business requirements in the advancement of EMRs for clinical practices at the point of care (e.g. EMR-integrated provincial products and services).


Reporting to the Manager, EMR Specifications, the Business Analyst, EMR Specifications is responsible for:

  • Support the ongoing updates and advancement of OMD's EMR Specifications
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in the development (e.g. gather, scribe, review) of EMRintegrated requirements for jurisdictional EHR products and services (e.g. HRM, OLIS, DHDR, etc.)
  • Develop and gather requirements that improve EMR data quality to advance the exchange of health data between points of service (e.g. EMRs, HIS, etc.)
  • Prepares requirements documents including system design flows, sequence diagrams, UML or other technical documents. Liaise between clients and business partners to manage relationships and requirements updates
  • Lead and/or support in the requirements development process (e.g., definition and analysis of requirements) to connect and integrate EMRs to provincial EHR solutions and services.
  • Support the OMD's Validation team to refine and develop, where needed, validation scenarios and processes for updated and new point of service (e.g. EMR) specifications
  • Participate in project meetings to report on progress and for issues management
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned

Requirements that are important to us:

  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Computer Science, Health Informatics, or equivalent experience
  • Five or more years of experience as a business analyst or business systems analyst
  • Two or more years of experience working in the Ontario Healthcare IT sector, with emphasis on Community Care, EMR vendors and EMR products
  • Knowledge of and experience with OMD EMR Specifications and EMRintegrated EHR products and services
  • Ability to gather and translate between business and technical needs clearly and concisely with strong attention to detail
  • Experience utilizing relevant digital health standards, including messaging and content standards (e.g., FHIR, OAuth2, XML, SNOMED)
  • Experience writing formal documents and business requirements
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining productive working relationships with internal/external stakeholders in complex, multistakeholder health care environments
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and planning process (goal statement, success criteria, stakeholder analysis, problem statement, scope definition, activity planning)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills; able to present to internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to effectively work independently and with a dynamic team
