About the Role
The

Vice President, Medicine and Quality is an integral part of Interior Health's Senior Executive Team (SET) with joint accountability for setting new standards of excellence in the delivery of health services in British Columbia.

Reporting directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer, the VP, Medicine and Quality provides strategic medical administration leadership and is accountable for the medicine
- and quality-related processes governing the delivery of optimum, consistent, and competent medical care provided by Interior Health. The VP works in collaboration with the Clinical Operations portfolios to enhance integration, transparency, and accountability for operational and strategic performance. The VP oversees Executive Medical Directors who work in formal partnership (i.e., dyad relationships) with the VPs of Clinical Operations.


How you will make an Impact

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Participates as the senior executive sponsor to clinical quality governance structures; provides leadership for the continuous pursuit of excellence in quality and safety; and ensures compliance with national/ provincial accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, and ethical standards within academic and clinical programs.
  • Provides oversight for medical governance including credentialing; privileging; peer review; performance improvement; physician contracts; graduate and undergraduate medical education; continuing medical education; clinical research; and academic healthscienceenterprise development, including liaison with senior leaders at the university and medical school level. Leads the development of Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules, policies, and procedures for physicians across Interior Health.
  • Provides executive leadership for the Interior Health Research Portfolio.
  • Ensures consistency and competency in medicine
- and quality-related clinical processes throughout Interior Health.

  • Sets the strategic direction for infection prevention and control, including antimicrobial stewardship.
  • Identifies critical issues to be addressed to achieve short, medium, and longterm objectives, strategies, plans, and programs to optimize service, improve the patient experience, and meet Ministry of Health objectives.
  • Monitors organizational and portfolio performance against operating targets and key performance indicators. Ensures programs and services are designed, integrated, operated, measured, and reported on in terms of efficiency, effectiveness, and attainment of established goals and objectives.
  • Establishes and oversees annual operating plans and related budgets for the portfolio, developing an appropriate organizational structure and allocating the financial, technological, physical, and human resources required to achieve current and long
- range strategies and meet operating objectives within the organization's fiscal framework.

  • Provides leadership to all staff within the portfolio through coaching, guiding, modelling key behaviours, and encouraging dialogue to create a respectful and motivating environment that encourages achievement of maximum potential, personal goals, and performance targets.
  • Provides senior representation in developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to address issues, share information, and promote partnerships. Collaborates and participates with the Ministry of Health, other BC Health Authorities, and provincial and national organizations on industry initiatives.
  • Keeps abreast of current management and professional practices, issues, and trends affecting health service delivery at the provincial and organizational levels.
