The BC Coroners Service is a fact-finding, not fault-finding, agency that provides an independent service to the family, community, government agencies and other organizations.

The BC Coroners Service is responsible for investigating all unnatural, sudden and unexpected, unexplained or unattended deaths in British Columbia.

It makes recommendations to improve public safety and prevent death in similar circumstances.


The position plans and coordinates the Coroners Service budgeting function that involves overseeing all annual budgeting activities with the various financial authorities.


Job Requirements:


  • Professional accounting designation (CPA-CA, CPA-CGA or CPA-CMA), issued by The Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada; Note: If your designation was obtained from outside of Canada, you will need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through an applicable Canadian Accounting Association.
  • Progressively responsible experience in budget development, financial analysis, and preparation of a variety of budget materials including business plans and funding submissions.
  • Experience in the leadership and supervision of staff.
  • Experience interpreting legislation and policy and providing advice to clients.
  • Experience with budgeting within a government environment.
  • Degree in an unrelated field.
  • Degree in accounting, finance, or a relevant field.
  • Experience prioritizing and managing multiple projects and tasks in a dynamic environment with constantly changing priorities and evolving issues, under significant time constraints within the public sector.

About this Position:

Currently, there is one position available in either Burnaby or Victoria.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
This position is excluded from union membership.
