    Job Title: Full Time Residential Counsellor

    Company: Broadview Village

    Broadview Village has a rich history of over 40 years supporting adults with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges. They are seeking a Full Time Residential Counsellor to join their team. The chosen candidate will work under the guidance of the Residential Manager in the Toronto, Ontario area.

    This full-time role involves providing 40 hours of support per week, with a schedule that rotates between different shifts to accommodate program needs.

    If you are passionate about creating and implementing programs in areas such as personal care, advocacy, and community integration, this position is for you. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, colleagues, and community members.

    The ideal candidate will need to navigate conflicts, overcome obstacles, and provide creative support to individuals in crisis.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Supporting residents' personal development and advocating for them
    • Completing necessary documentation and maintaining records
    • Administering medications
    • Providing learning opportunities and fostering independence in residents
    • Maintaining cleanliness and ensuring health and safety protocols
    • Offering orientation and support to co-workers and volunteers
    • Promoting the agency's goals and philosophy
    • Other assigned duties

    Working Conditions:

    • Exposure to dirt, bodily fluids, and waste
    • Noise and dealing with difficult situations
    • Handling garbage and verbal abuse
    • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.

    Qualifications and Education Requirements:

    • Completed Developmental Services Worker Diploma or related degree/diploma
    • Valid First Aid and CPR certification
    • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification

    Experience and Knowledge:

    • 6-12 months' experience working with people with developmental disabilities
    • Experience with Individual Support Plans and medication administration

    Skills and Capabilities:

    • Strong counselling and de-escalation skills
    • Willingness to undergo necessary screenings and background checks
    • Support for The Salvation Army's mission
