    Description

    Broadview Village has over 40 years of experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges. Our residences provide 24/7 support to individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health issues. Currently, we are looking to hire a Full-time Residential Counsellor to join our team. This role, reporting to the Residential Manager, is based in Scarborough, Ontario area. The position is full-time, working 40 hours per week on a schedule that rotates between Sunday to Thursday from 7 am to 3 pm and 3 pm to 11 pm, depending on program needs.

    We need someone who is passionate and proactive in developing and implementing programs related to personal care & hygiene, advocacy, and community integration. Collaboration within a team and with various stakeholders is essential, including healthcare professionals, consultants, colleagues, community members, family, and friends. The ideal candidate should be resilient, adept at handling conflicts, overcoming obstacles, and providing creative support during challenging situations.

    As a Residential Counsellor, you will ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures, including Occupational Health & Safety Standards, Payroll Procedures, and other regulatory requirements.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Supporting residents' personal development as per individual support planning
    • Completing necessary documentation and record-keeping
    • Administering medications
    • Providing learning opportunities through agency and community resources
    • Promoting residents' independence, including meal preparation and cleanliness
    • Maintaining program/site cleanliness and following health and safety protocols
    • Offering orientation and support to coworkers, students, volunteers, and family members
    • Adhering to the program goals and philosophy
    • Other assigned duties

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    • Exposure to dirt, bodily fluids, and bodily waste
    • Noise and dealing with challenging individuals
    • Handling garbage and managing odors
    • Physical demands of the position, including lifting up to 50 lbs.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Completion of a Developmental Services Worker Diploma or related degree/diploma
    • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR certification
    • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certificate (or willingness to obtain)

    EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

    • Minimum 6-12 months' experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
    • Experience with Individual Support Plans and medication administration

    SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

    • Strong counselling and de-escalation skills
    • Ability to pass background checks and screening processes
    • Support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army
