The Nuna Group of Companies is now accepting resumes for

Human Resources Manager preferably with large earthworks and construction projects experience.


Nuna is the largest Inuit-owned heavy civil construction, earthworks, and mine construction contractor in Canada, working across several Canadian jurisdictions.


Position Scope


This role requires a seasoned leader with acute decision-making skills who serves as mentor and communicates with senior management to resolve issues.

With the assistance of the human resources team and travel team, the incumbent develops, implements, and administers all H.R. programs including, compensation strategies, recruitment, employee/labour relations, benefits, performance management, employment legislation, policy interpretation and collective agreement interpretation.

Knowledge:


  • Strong knowledge of all HR disciplines
  • Strong working knowledge of legislative compliance with multiple provincial and federal legislation, employment standards, current employment trends and common law practices
  • Indepth knowledge of Ontario employment standards is an asset

Education & Experience:


  • A degree in Human Resources
  • A degree in Aboriginal studies, or equivalent, would be considered an asset
  • 10+ years as a HR generalist with strong knowledge of HR practices
  • 5+ years' experience as a Human Resources Manager
  • Prior experience in heavy construction, mining industries is desired
  • Prior experience in engaging Indigenous communities and individuals
  • Prior Human resources experience working with a large organization with National exposure is considered an asset
  • Experience in dealing with multiple levels within an organization from entry level employees to senior executives
  • CHRP designation in good standing or is currently in the process of acquiring
  • Experience operating within a collective agreement environment (CLAC, PSAC are considered assets)

Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for the daytoday leadership of HR team, including recruitment and selection, orientation, coaching and mentoring, performance feedback and supporting growth and development opportunities
  • Management of the HR activities for the Nuna Group of Companies
  • Collaborate with internal and external departments to ensure operational and informational requirements related to HR initiatives are met while improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the department
  • Ensure compliance to applicable legislative and regulatory jurisdiction through proper documentation while ensuring confidentiality
  • Periodic travel to work site locations, northern and Indigenous communities to build relationships that empower Nuna's business presence

Accountability:


  • Providing effective orientation to nonunion and leadership staff of Nuna Group of Companies (Nuna)
  • Working closely with the leadership team to ensure programs and policies are in place to support the ongoing needs of the company
  • Ensuring that the yearly completion of the Performance Management Program (including Objective-Setting and Evaluation, Coaching on Company Core Competencies, Training and Succession Planning) by the nonunion and leadership team
  • Support the incremental increase of Aboriginal engagement numbers as per yearly corporate targets
  • Developing positive relationships within the Inuit, First Nations, and Metis communities with which Nuna works in partnership
  • Supervise the Benefits administrator to ensure accurate engagement of employee benefits
  • Oversee labour relation activities and any escalated issues
  • Ensure Nuna provides effective travel services to all Nuna employees working at remote sites
  • Support management on matters relating to employee relations, performance management, retention, and engagement
  • Assist in the effective implementation of change strategies at the ground level with the ability to connect broad business goals with organizational change agendas
  • Develop and implement policies/procedures and best practices that are in alignment with the corporate culture, values, and business objectives
  • Recommending, influencing, and delivering changes to the HR systems, processes, and procedures
  • Understanding client needs and working collaboratively with HR team to develop solutions
  • Ensuring the successful execution of talent planning, organizational effectiveness initiatives & strategies, employee relations, training, and leadership development for the region
