Recreation Assistants (6 positions)

  • Casual
  • Up to 15 hours per week
  • September June 30, 2024


Under the general direction of the Clinical Manager, Clinics and Specialised Supports and day to day supervision of the Recreation Therapist, the Recreation Assistant assists in facilitation of recreational programs for clients, ensuring the safety of clients and the integrity of sites used for activities; assists in indirect client care; provides leadership, direction and support to program volunteers; maintains communication with all other staff members; supports departmental/Centre efforts in Quality Improvement Program (QIP) activities; participates in education, orientation and public relations as required; maintains a safe work environment; and performs other duties as assigned.


Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in planning, implementation and facilitation of group programs for clients
  • Modifying activities to meet needs and abilities of participants
  • Providing a safe and age appropriate fun atmosphere that fosters the development of leisure
  • Observing client activity and recording/reporting as required


You have a minimum of three years' experience working with children, youth and their families with physical and developmental disabilities, and experience planning and facilitating group recreation programs.


As an asset you have are pursing a degree or college diploma in therapeutic recreation, and a R/TRO, R/DIP or CTRS designation.


You have a deep commitment to family-centred care and a passion for working with others to support children to achieve their personal best.
