This is a Night position working every other weekend with a static rotation.

Hours of work are Foothills Medical Centre (FMC) is the largest hospital in the province of Alberta, with 1100+ patient beds.

It is one of Canada's leading trauma, research, and teaching hospitals.

FMC provides advanced medical Servies to over two million people from Calgary and surrounding regions including southern Alberta, southeastern British Columbia, and southern Saskatchewan.

Our Pre-Analytical department delivers high-quality, responsive diagnostic lab services to all clinical care buildings, including but not limited to; TBCC-SSB, Main acute care hospital, North Tower Grace Women's, McCaig Tower, Emergency Department, Ambulatory Clinics-Outpatient Lab, and upcoming Aurthur Child Cancer Center.

Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is currently seeking a Laboratory Assistant I to perform patient facing tasks in a fast paced, highly team focused acute care hospital laboratory.

Description:


As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner.

You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Equivalent is defined as completion of a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) and Combined Laboratory and Xray Technologist (CLXT) program in Canada; completion of a Medical Lab Technician/Technologist program outside of Canada; and MLT and CLXT students who have completed their phlebotomy training/rotation.

Applicants with a high school diploma may be considered.

If hired, you will be required to complete on-the-job phlebotomy training provided by APL at no cost, and formal training courses offered by SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) or NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology).

The costs associated with these formal training courses will be your responsibility.

You will be required to complete these training requirements within your probationary period, as per the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA) collective agreement.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Competency in phlebotomy. Inpatient phlebotomy experience in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity within the last year. Proficiency in data entry. LIS experience Epic (Hyperspace/Rover) within the last year. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail. Ability to maintain strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality. Able to be fitted to all required PPE (respiratory masks, gloves, gowns).


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in neonatal skin puncture. Courses or certificates in personal leadership development. Courses or training in process improvement or change management. Demonstrates initiative, analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. Experience interpreting workflow visuals and ability to respond appropriately to meet turnaround times. Demonstrated ability to lead self through change. National certification with CSMLS. Intermediate competency in Microsoft Office.
