We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated
Food Services Coach who demonstrates our values of compassion, accountability, responsiveness and empowerment; to our clients, families and each other.

The
Food Services Coach will increase employment and labour market skills among newcomers age 15+.

Operating out of Wesley's First Start Café (a social enterprise located in downtown Hamilton) the position will support newcomers to be active, engaged, skilled and employed members of the community.


The role is specifically responsible for helping clients with job and social skills development, job-related language acquisition, in-class training, and coordinating on-the-job training hours in the food services sector - delivered by staff in First Start Cafe.

This position is a
unionized,
permanent,
full-time position. The rate of pay is $22.55 per hour and the position should be mobile within Hamilton.

**Key Responsibilities: - Act as a liaison between Newcomers Division at Wesley and First Start Café teams ensuring that newcomers are aware of and participating in the training program

  • Ensure that the First Start Café Kitchen Teaching Facilitator is successfully delivering the inkitchen training based on funder requirements and using a trauma informed approach and equity diversity and inclusion lens.
  • Facilitate workshops for trainees that support workforce related social skills, an understanding of Canadian food services culture and language, resume writing, interview techniques, job searches etc.
  • Oversee the implementation of food services workshops/training courses including Safe Food Handling, First Aid/CPR, WHMIS etc. and ensure that all trainees obtain the supports required to become certified.
  • Proactively assess each trainee's readiness, motivation and confidence to join the workforce and develop clientcentered goalbased employment plans that support employment within the community.
  • Where appropriate, facilitate referrals to Wesley's employment service team, and other newcomer friendly employment services, and work collaboratively with staff to provide ongoing support to trainees as required.
  • Conduct an employment review 3 months after placement for the purposes of confirming funding outcomes.
  • Maintain meticulous documents, financial, statistical and narrative reports based on funder requirements.
  • Assist with administrative duties related to the program including stipends, bus tickets, online certificates, and training gifts (tshirts, apron, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you will bring:


  • Postsecondary degree/diploma in employment coaching/career counselor, social services worker, food services or related experience.
  • 2 years' experience working with newcomers to Canada using a trauma informed and client centered approach.
  • Strong understanding of the culture, desired skills and regulatory requirements (related to employees) of the food service industry.
  • Familiarity with the food service industry with contacts in Hamilton and surrounding areas and high degree of comfort networking to grow contacts.
  • Ability to design, coordinate and facilitate workshops that transfer skills to trainees.
  • Strong administrative and coordination skills.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills in English are required; fluency in a second language relevant to the community is an asset.
  • Ability to demonstrate patience, compassion, nonjudgement and flexibility. Ability to collaborate and work comfortably within multiteams within the organization
  • The following trainings are an asset and will be required to be completed upon hiring: trauma informed, antioppressive/racism, First Aid, Safe Talk.
  • Must be able to meet the travel requirements of the position.
