All Saints Westboro is seeking a part-time Coordinator of Children and Youth Ministries. We are a vibrant and forward-thinking parish in the heart of Ottawa's Westboro neighbourhood. Children and Youth Ministry is a central and highly valued aspect of our church community to
support our engaged and active group of children, youth and families.


Position Overview:


Responsible for children and youth ministry including curriculum development, preparing resource kits, recruiting and supporting volunteer team, organizing special events and ensuring that resources are organized and stocked.


Roles and Responsibilities:


  • Reports to clergy team and is accountable to the clergy team regarding children and youth ministry
  • Responsible for regular communications with staff, volunteers, Parish, and broader community
  • Attends weekly Morning Prayer/Staff meetings
  • Designs and maintains bulletin boards in lower hall and classrooms.
  • Submits weekly bulletin announcements when necessary
  • Writes articles for parish newsletter "Bread for the Saints" about Child and Youth events and initiatives.
  • Provides oversight, support, and leadership of children and youth ministry volunteers.
  • Recruits, interviews, and places new volunteers into roles that match their abilities.
  • Orients new volunteers by introducing them to policies and procedures related to volunteers who work with children.
  • Works with Parish Administrator to fulfill Safe Church requirements for volunteers in the parish.
  • Trains new volunteers on specific job duties for the volunteer role by reviewing the volunteer job description and sharing expectations for behavior and performance.
  • Schedules volunteers for worship services, Church School, and special events. If necessary, takes on a teaching role. The coordinator is expected to be engaged actively in all activities unless during vacation days or due to illness. In these situations, the coordinator would be responsible for designating a substitute.
  • Ensures adequate childtoadult ratios during events and regular activities, helping to resolve issues, and ensuring volunteers have the resources to perform job duties.
  • Observes volunteers to ensure consistency in practice and coaches them on appropriate and acceptable behavior, especially to align with the standards and expectations of The Anglican Church of Canada
  • Meets with volunteers at least annually to evaluate and review the programs and logistics with the goal of improving the effectiveness and efficacy of program delivery, and works with volunteers to ensure balance in commitment and scheduling.
  • Acts as family liaison for baptism and confirmation preparation
  • Organizes youth activities and coordinates a youth ministry team.
  • Recruits, trains and organizes Altar Servers (Grades 5 and up)
  • Performs other duties as required and as directed by the clergy. There will be a need to provide administrative support in the Parish Office from time to time. The coordinator will contribute to the building and upholding of a positive team mentality among staff
members.


Skills, Experience required:


  • Experience working with children and youth
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Knowledge of the Anglican Church of Canada
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team
  • Vulnerable Sector Check required

Average hours of work: 20 hours/week
