The Data, Privacy and Innovation Division uses a one-government approach to information and privacy governance, decision-making and service delivery across the Government of Alberta (GoA) balanced with individual client needs.

This facilitates enhanced data sharing, collaboration, reduction in data duplication and innovation to ensure effective and efficient services across the government to provide better services to Albertans.


Role:


The Data, Information and Privacy Services Division uses a one government approach to information and privacy governance, decision-making and service delivery across the Government of Alberta (GoA) balanced with individual client needs.

This facilitates enhanced data sharing, collaboration, reduction in data duplication and innovation to ensure effective and efficient services across the government to provide better services to Albertans.


Reporting to the Senior Manager, Data Architecture & Product Delivery, this position is responsible for leading a team that is responsible for the designing and developing the GoA Federated Data Ecosystem, and the delivery of associated data services to enable the vision of the GoA Data Strategy.

This role works strategically and tactically with other individuals within Service Alberta and across the organization to support the efficient and strategic management of the organization's data assets.

The role focuses on agility, business outcomes, innovation and transformation and ensuring that data is treated as a corporate asset.

This role provides leadership in identification, evaluation and recommendations of opportunities to address and enhance data platforms, data quality, data architecture and data services.


The efforts of this role will improve access to and informed use of GoA data assets both within and outside of government in support of policy analysis, program planning and decision-making.

This role will require the ability to think and work strategically across the organization, as well as diving deeper on both data and information topics related to digital transition, data sharing, data governance, and the data economy.

Doing that work would require the role to partner closely with other Managers and Senior Managers (and above) across Service Alberta and the remainder of the organization.

The position will participate on committees comprising of managers and other knowledge experts to provide advice and prepare recommendations that advance the value of GoA information and data assets.


  • The Manager, Data Services is responsible for providing leadership and direction to staff and resources that will provision integrated data services to enable the effective use of GoA data and information assets

This includes:

  • Data Platform Management
  • Data Services including Data Architecture and Data Quality
  • Leadership, direction and support to team members
  • Support Senior Manager, Data Architecture & Product Delivery in accomplishing mandate of Data Team

Qualifications:

University degree in a field related (Science, Business, etc.), supplemented by four (4) years management or leadership experience. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.


Required:


  • Experience leading projects, facilitating communication and stakeholder engagement to gain consensus and influence stakeholders to ensure a common understanding of the direction.
  • Experience developing and executing business strategies with corresponding documentation such as strategy documents, business cases, roadmaps, tactical plans

Assets:


  • Supervision of a team of data professionals priority setting and engagement strategies
  • Indepth understanding and knowledge of data capabilities as data lakes, data warehouses, data integration, data management and data governance
  • Indepth understanding and knowledge of analytical data platforms, data architecture, data management and governance
  • Strong understanding of modern agile practices in the context of project management
  • Familiarity with Azure technologies, Snowflake and/or Databricks
