Housekeeper


DEPARTMENT:

***: The Housekeeper reports directly to the Director, Executive and is responsible for the overall operations of the Housekeeping and Maintenance department.


The Housekeeper ensures that the department provides a clean, sanitary and comfortable home environment for residents, employees, and the public.

Duties include performing housekeeping and custodial services.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:


Job Responsibility #1:
HOUSEKEEPING SERVICES (55% of the time)


  • Implements organization's mission as it relates to housekeeping and maintenance
  • Carries out practices that create a positive experience for residents
  • Provides housekeeping services that meet the requirements, needs and preferences of residents
  • Assists with making beds, changing sheets, and distributing clean towels
  • Stocks linen closets and other supplies' areas, including staff and visitors' washrooms
  • Performs routine cleaning of resident rooms, common areas and public spaces
  • Performs vacant room cleaning duties according to established standards
  • Prepares rooms for new residents
  • Ensures resident rooms, common areas and public spaces are cared for, clean, well maintained, inspected and meet Public Health requirements
  • Supports an effective inspection program for all resident rooms, common areas and public spaces
  • Attends to residents' requests for extra supplies
  • Collaborates and liaises with team members to deliver housekeeping and maintenance services to residents
  • Interacts with residents to obtain feedback on the quality of housekeeping and maintenance services
  • Responds to housekeeping and maintenancerelated inquiries from residents

Job Responsibility #2:
JANITORIAL SERVICES (30% of the time)


  • Sweeps and mops hallways, floors and stairs
  • Empties trash receptacles and disposes trash into dumpster
  • Cares for, cleans and maintains common areas and public spaces according to Public Health requirements
  • Ensures all access areas are clean and safe by sweeping, shovelling, salting and sanding, as needed
  • Stocks supply areas, including staff and visitors' washrooms

Job Responsibility #3:
SAFETY AND SANITATION (10% of the time)


  • Cleans and sanitizes common areas and public spaces according to Public Health requirements
  • Ensures that all chemical products and hazardous materials are handled and stored, in accordance with safety requirements
  • Ensures compliance with WHMIS and sanitation standards
  • Ensures the housekeeping and maintenance area is clean and organized

Job Responsibility #4:
PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED (5% of the time)


QUALIFICATIONS:


EDUCATION:


  • High school diploma and/or equivalent in experience
  • WHMIS Certification

EXPERIENCE:


  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a housekeeping role

COMPETENCIES/PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • Keen attention to detail and selfmotivated
  • Highly professional in approach
  • Excellent time and priority management
  • Flexible and adaptable; able to work both independently and as part of a team

TECHNICAL SKILLS:


  • Knowledge of infection control practices
  • Knowledge of chemical safety regulations, requirements and procedures

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Experience within a Retirement Home or Long-Term Care setting

Compensation:
Commensurate with experience and qualifications

Marian Residence Retirement


Salary:
From $17.00 per hour
