    Psychological Consultant

    Job Function:

    To provide a comprehensive consultation service to Board staff, students and parents/guardians, as well as professionals outside the Board. At the request of the School Resource Team, conduct individual psychological-educational assessments, as monitored by the Psychologist, of students who are experiencing difficulty functioning within the school setting, for identification of possible learning and/or social-emotional difficulties, and to suggest intervention strategies for students with special needs.

    Job Description:

    Perform the following duties:

    Evaluate and assess students referred to the department; gather information on student development and functioning; consult with other professionals, as required, interpret their findings and make appropriate recommendations.

    Conduct psychological-educational assessments of individual students with the use of psychological and educational tests and other techniques or sources of information, observation and evaluation that will be of assistance in consulting with school personnel and parents; interpret findings and make appropriate recommendations.

    Provide a professional opinion based on standardized measures, interviews and observations pertaining to a student's ability and learning style.

    Assist school personnel and family members in understanding their child's difficulties, exceptionalities and needs; assist parents/guardians in accessing appropriate community resources.

    Develop collaboratively with Student Services and school staff, teaching and program strategies to meet the student's needs; participate in inschool service programs, the School Resource Team and provide consultation to teachers, students and parents/guardians.

    Provide crisis response intervention and prepare and present inservice programs and workshops, as requested.

    Work directly with the Superintendent of Schools and school principals with respect to all aspects of assessment, group counselling, individual counselling, parent/guardian and educational staff meetings, crisis intervention and links with the community agencies.

    Adhere to any Board policies and procedures as they relate to the position of psychometrist.

    Participate in Identification, Placement and Review Committees, site based meetings and case conferences as necessary; arrange and coordinate case conferences.

    Write comprehensive psychological-educational assessment reports.

    Job Requirements:

    Master's Degree and/or recognized professional certification; i.e., child studies, psychology.

    One (1) to two (2) years' related experience using a variety of assessment instruments in an educational setting is required. Successful experience in working with educational staff, parents/guardians and children.

    Superior oral and written communication skills and ability to translate psychological-educational assessment data into learning program modification. Effective management of multiple priorities and ability to complete psychological-educational assessments within a short time line.

    Proven ability to manage student behaviours, assess student learning and provide appropriate recommendations to meet student's needs.
