Reports to:
Senior Manager, IT Infrastructure

The Database Manager will be part of a team that effectively manages all company databases. Responsibilities include working with various departments to maintain and update all systems while ensuring data integrity, compliance and security.


The Database Manager will conduct full lifecycle activities to include requirements analysis and design, develop compliance and security reports and continuously monitoring performance and control plans to identify improvements in databases and related processes.

Job Responsibilities/Accountabilities:


  • Oversee daytoday activities of database team, including internal and external resources (including 5 internal database administrators and analysts);
  • Assign team members to projects and initiatives for installation, migration and upgrade of databases and provide team members with guidance as needed;
  • Ensure efficient troubleshooting of complex database issues by the team in an accurate and timely manner;
  • Supervise identification and resolution by the team of database issues related to performance and capacity;
  • Ensure that standard procedures are documented by the team to enhance scalability and performance of existing database architecture and report on these metrics as well as capacity planning;
  • Ensure continuous availability and fast recovery with uptodate database disaster recovery procedures;
  • Ensure DBA team participation to yearly corporate audits with respect to data integrity, quality, compliance and security;
  • Ensure that analysts develop best practices for performance and operational efficiency;
  • Ensure that databases are installed and configured according to business requirements, compliance and security;
  • Ensure development and maintenance of custom reports in each database by analysts for executive dashboards, performance metrics and team performance based on both executive leadership and project team requirements;
  • Work with analysts to research and suggest new database products, services and protocols;
  • Manage contracts, licensing and relationships with database vendors.

Professional Experience/Qualifications:


  • You hold a College or University degree in related technical areas or equivalent work experience;
  • You can manage staff, including recruitment and selection, training and staff development, assignment of work, determining performance standards, and conducting reviews;
  • You can establish effective working relationships, and connect with management, other project stakeholders, business partners and project staff;
  • You have negotiation skills to develop and manage customer service agreements with clients and manage contracts with vendors;
  • You can provide technical and general business expertise to direct staff in the resolution of business and IT analysis and design problems;
  • Experience working in database team leadership or management is a strong asset;
  • Experience working and managing other IT related towers is an asset;
  • Experience working in ERP Systems is an asset;
  • Familiarity with reporting packages and databases (SQL preferred), and some programming (JavaScript, XML, or ETL frameworks) a plus;
  • Familiarity with queries and reports a plus;
  • Familiarity with data modeling, database design, and data mining techniques a plus;
  • You have the ability to coach and mentor staff and inspire a positive team.
  • You must successfully complete a selection process that includes interviews, aptitude tests (for some positions)_
