The Fitness Instructor will be responsible for implementing fitness programs based on the precautions and recommendations of the Physiotherapists for members of the Parkwood Fitness Centre and follow up with members to evaluate, modify and revise programs as required.

The Fitness Instructor will work with the other leaders of the Fitness Centre in developing the Fitness Centre Program and will be expected to conduct adapted aerobics, yoga, boxercise and facilitate group educational sessions on fitness-related topics.

Also, the Fitness Instructor will orient, oversee and educate volunteers working with the Fitness Centre. Additionally, the Fitness Instructor will participate in developing our community partnerships and investigate other community-based fitness resources.


The Fitness Instructor will be an integral member of the team implementing a Function Electrical Stimulation (FES) Cycling program for individuals with spinal cord injuries.

This is an innovative modality that improves cardiovascular fitness as well as reduces potential of secondary complications.


Essential Qualifications

  • Community College diploma in a health/fitnessrelated field
  • Formalized training in fitness instruction (eg. CAN-FITPRO certification)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the impairments of individuals with physical disability and the implications for fitness programming
  • Experience in fitness programming and use of fitness equipment
  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational & problemsolving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in French would be an asset
  • Training in adapted fitness for individuals with a physical disability
  • Experience in working with and supporting volunteers

Immunization Requirements

  • Provide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid19 vaccine and a written commitment to follow any future Public Health recommendations and St. Joseph's Health Care London policies and processes related to COVID management in the workplace.
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
