FINANCIAL CONTROLLER - HALIFAX

Term:

What you'll be doing _


Working closely and reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Finance Manager is responsible for the Organization's full Financial Cycle and must ensure accuracy and transparency in financial accounting.

Your team will support you in delivering goals and objectives connected to the strategic plan. Your duties will include account reconciliation, balance sheet analysis, monthly reporting, tax reporting, and preparation of budgets. You will also manage our organization's debt and lead the development of financial statements and forecasts.

You must have
:

Minimum qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Certified Professional Accountant (CPA)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, (SAGE would be an asset)

Minimum experience:


  • Experience completing Charitable Tax Returns
  • Experience with financial management & payroll software systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in accounting, bookkeeping, administration, & developing financial reporting systems
  • Knowledge of Registered Charity Accounting policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder is considered an asset
  • Experience in payroll is considered an asset
  • Experience providing advice and direction with regards to financial matters, using discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive information.

Minimum skills and ability:


  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to coordinate, prepare, monitor and control expenditures and budget.
  • Keen strategy to adapt regulatory changes, and strictly follow CRA requirements
  • Understand diplomacy and have experience working in a collaborative and dynamic team environment

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • To adhere to all policies and procedures including those identified in the Code of Conduct
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, oversee an internal funds managment system. Maintain accurate and complete trail of supporting documentation for all bookkeeping & financial activities
  • Follow established procedures for banking, documentation, data entry, inventory management, receivables and payables. Safeguard ANS assets and information.
  • Ensure security of all electronic data with virus checks and offsite storage of daily back ups
  • Manage funds associated with: daily operations, ongoing programs/services, & restricted grants.
  • Prepare and issue cheques, code, post, and pay invoices, prepare deposits, journal entries & reconciliations, oversee visa & petty cash accounts
  • Update budgets and provide the Executive Director with accurate and timely financial projections.
  • Assist in managing cash flow. Prepare financial statements and reports for the Executive Director and ANS Board of Directors
  • Maintain a series of accounting records and spreadsheets for the overall management of ANS, plus restricted funds as well as federal & provincial grants, ANS programs and ANS projects, Fundraising Events, Major Gifts and Donations
  • Oversee all Autism Nova Scotia (ANS) bank acc
