POSITION OVERVIEW:


Technician I will facilitate and lead various lab-based research projects with little supervision, as well as perform other research duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator or their designate.

Projects will require theoretical insight, interpretation of data and the extraction of pertinent information from technical literature.

The incumbent will assist with the modification of procedures, as well as designing or creating new procedures/ technical approaches as necessary based on experimental results.

The Technician I will have to continuously facilitate the flow of work and act as a source of information for research activities on a regular basis.

Tact, good judgment, organizational skills, and manual dexterity are essential for this position.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Laboratory work:


  • Compiling data, performing routine standardized techniques, procedures and experiments.
  • Responsible for organization of the laboratory and its daytoday operations (order supplies, maintain budgets, and assist with the development of new standard operating procedures).

General:


  • Organize and maintain research documents and database of all project activities within the group in a structured manner. Coordinate and periodically update all regulatory files and binders for research studies.
  • Hold regular weekly meetings with the Principal Investigator and research study team to provide uptodate status on research activities.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited University
  • A one year of relevant experience in a laboratory and clinical research environment is preferred.
  • Must be versatile, flexible, and selfmotivated.
  • Experience with data management.
  • Must possess good communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) and be comfortable engaging and exchanging information with other members of the lab.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problemsolving abilities with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with a variety of individuals in a cooperative manner, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organizational and time management skills, professionalism, dependability.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and expertise in database management and data analysis.

Safety Requirement

  • Maintain personal certifications as required by Safety Office.
  • Maintain the lab's safety requirements as required by Safety Office.
  • Maintain current labspecific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) including work with hazardous chemicals and biological agents, hazardous waste disposal, etc.
  • Maintain the lab's chemical Inventory.
  • Contribute to the training the lab members on labspecific procedures.
  • A recent Provincial Directive mandates all employees of public hospitals in Ontario to be either fully vaccinated for COVID19 or be regularly tested. All new employees joining Sinai Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID19 or have received at least one dose of a COVID19 vaccine and be on track toward full vaccination within six (6) weeks; participating in mandatory twice weekly Rapid Antigen Testing Program until fully vaccinated. There are very limited circumstances in which approval will be given for a medical exemption from receiving the COVID19 vaccine._
