Position Overview:

  • Enforces parking bylaws on City property in the downtown core and residential streets, private apartment/townhouse complexes, and commercial properties by general patrol of the city. Responds to, investigates, and enforces parking bylaw complaints; gathers evidence; and acts as a witness in court with respect to municipal parking bylaw infractions.

Responsibilities:


  • Patrolling city streets and parking lots to ensure bylaws are being followed, issuing parking infraction notices.
  • Assisting in the preparation of court documents and attending court as a witness.
  • Preparing daily summaries of the parking infractions that were issued.
  • Providing general direction and education to the public.
  • Towing of vehicles when necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:


  • Minimum Grade 12 diploma, plus one (1) year additional job related postsecondary courses in Law and Security, Police Foundations or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of related experience in the bylaw or policing field.
  • Valid MTO G class driver's license in good standing.
  • Valid CPR Level "C" and Standard First Aid Certificate.
  • Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.
  • Physically fit and be able to walk and drive for an entire shift and sustain a high level of activity.
  • Possess proven customer service skills and be able to adequately deal with hostile people and manage conflict in a professional manner.
  • Willing and able to work the required rotating shifts 24 hours/7 days a week.
  • Ability to communicate both oral and written for purposes of testifying in court and documenting daily work.
  • Willing to wear a uniform as supplied and maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
  • Able to carry and issue tickets using a handheld computer (approx. weight 2 lbs).
  • Capable of working independently and have an ability to analyze situations and problem solve with minimum supervision.
  • Must be reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
