    WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

    The Maintenance Supervisor reports to the Maintenance Manager and is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair operations within the plant. They play a pivotal role in fostering a safety-conscious culture within the maintenance team and ensuring that safety remains a top priority in all maintenance activities. They ensure the continuous and efficient operation of equipment and machinery. The Senior Maintenance Supervisor promotes the use of protective and preventative maintenance systems and techniques to improve principle operating equipment and system liability by performing the following duties personally.

    WHAT WILL YOU DO?

    • Safety Compliance:
    • Ensuring that maintenance activities comply with company's and provincial safety regulations and environmental standards and implement safety protocols to protect employees and equipment.
    • Ensuring the safety of subordinates through enforcing safe work practices and providing motivation and effective communication.
    • Conducting toolbox/tailgate safety talks daily
    • Take a lead in conducting risk assessments to identify potential hazards inherent in maintenance tasks and in the workplace
    • Contributing to the investigation of any accidents, near-misses, or incidents that occur during maintenance activities and takes the lead in resolving safety issues and improving safety procedures across the plant
    • Developing emergency response plans and procedures for various scenarios, such as equipment failure, chemical spills, or accidents.
    • Supervision:
    • Directs and supervises workers engaged in repairing, dismantling, assembling, and installing industrial equipment on an as required basis, and is one of the weekends on-call supervisory staff.
    • Supervises and directs maintenance contractors working on the plant site as required.
    • Ensures contractors time is being effectively managed.
    • Ensures quality of site work being executed by field verification.
    • Ensures maintenance work orders are completed with comments and on a timely basis.
    • Provides solutions to problems with employee performance such as absenteeism, discipline, etc.
    • Administers disciplinary action on direct reports as required.
    • Reviews individual performance with each subordinate.
    • This position supervises 3 to 5 millwrights/ Technicians
    • Equipment Management:
    • Ensures detailed feedback regarding equipment condition and reliability improvements.
    • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and calibration of cement production machinery, including crushers, mills, kilns, conveyors, and associated equipment.
    • Ensures all materials used on jobs are properly charged to the correct work order.
    • Maintains accountability of company owned tools
    • Ensures serviceability of company owned tools
    • Ensures the availability of proper tools.
    • Ensures that all maintenance vehicles and work areas are kept clean and safe.
    • Consults with suppliers to optimize plant equipment.
    • Assists in the purchase of non-stock parts and outside services as required.
    • Assists in the maintenance of spare parts inventory.
    • Provides input for the development of equipment Bills of Materials.
    • Consults with suppliers to optimize plant equipment.
    • Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving:
    • Swiftly identifies issues by conducting in-depth analyses, coordinating with the team, implementing solutions, and continuously improving processes to ensure optimal equipment functionality and minimize downtime.
    • Troubleshoots any equipment and/or machinery malfunctions to determine root cause(s) and develops corrective action plans to rectify the problems. Updates existing plant maintenance and preventative maintenance systems.
    • Responsible for the execution of the approved work schedule
    • Budget Management:
    • Evaluates cost reduction opportunities; introduces new preventative maintenance technology programs and ensures these programs meet manufacturer, company, and industry standards.
    • Using historical data, equipment lifespan estimates, and industry benchmarks to forecast maintenance costs accurately. This helps in budgeting for routine maintenance, repairs, and replacements
    • Tracking and monitoring actual expenditures against the budgeted amounts regularly.
    • Collaborating with the management team to plan for major equipment replacements or upgrades by preparing cost-benefit analyses and justifications for capital expenditures to ensure they align with the organization's goals and budgetary constraints.
    • Participate in preparation of annual budget preparation and adherence. Monitors budget regularly.
    • Training and Development:
    • Providing training and guidance to the maintenance team on effective troubleshooting techniques, encouraging them to enhance their skills in identifying and resolving mechanical problems.
    • Ensures that all technical training and development requirements are met for subordinates.
    • Assist in the training and development of maintenance staff to enhance their skills, knowledge, and safety awareness.
    • Documentation, Reporting & Payroll:
    • Maintaining detailed records of troubleshooting activities, including the identified problem, actions taken, solutions applied, and outcomes.
    • Ensures maintenance work orders are completed with craftsmen's comments and completed on a timely basis.
    • Records and analyzes data to determine mechanical problems
    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment histories, safety inspections, and compliance documentation.
    • Manages vacation schedule prior to plant management approval.
    • Manages work time allocation for correct payroll.
    • Ensures all man-hours are charged to the correct work order.
    • Union Management:
    • Maintains a strong and positive relationship with the Union; deals with union issues/concerns as they arise.
    • Understanding and implementing the terms and conditions outlined in collective bargaining agreements (if applicable) as it pertains to subordinates.
    • Maintenance Planning:
    • Participates in Daily and Weekly Planning Meetings.
    • Provides input to Maintenance Planner to set job priorities.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    • While performing the duties of this job, the job holder is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is sometimes exposed to poor weather conditions and noise

    WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

    • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent experience and technical qualifications may be considered.
    • A minimum of 5 years of Cement/mining/steel Industrial Experience in maintenance roles with a proven track record of progressive responsibility.
    • Team supervision experience
    • Progressive understanding in all aspects of Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance with proven success in creating efficient and effective processes.
    • A strong knowledge of MS Office is required.
    • SAP experience will be considered an asset.
